Prof. Nevzat Tarhan; “A reform of our education system is needed!”

Founding Rector of Uskudar University Prof. Nevzat Tarhan was guest of 'IZMEM Education Platform Online Trainings' organized by Izmir Provincial Directorate of National Education within the scope of Vocational Development Academy. Commenting on "New Truths in Education and 21st Century Skills" in online training, Tarhan said: "If we apply these 21st Century skills in education, the young people who are just growing up will be the ones who are catching up with the age. New educators do accordingly. Not every university should have an education faculty. Just as a health university was established, so should be the university of education. Should be established first in Izmir, Istanbul, Ankara and other large places. A reform of our education system is needed. Unless we make this reform, such individual efforts in our education system will not yield results, unfortunately we will be the object, not the subject, of global developments. They will produce, we will consume."

“Learning by experience is a 21st century skill”

Prof. Nevzat Tarhan, who drew attention to the subject of connectivity from 21st Century skills in the program where educators showed great interest and spoke as; “Another skill in this era is connectivity, collaboration skills. If you're going to work on something, if you're going to do quality education, you're going to bring connectivity to the forefront. Teamwork is important for collaborating and innovation. In fact, in Finnish education, it is a place that applies a lot of these new models. Years ago, a team of Turkey's education experts went there to say, 'What is this educational model?' and there they see children dressed up in the snow and cold weather in winter and teaching in the cold weather in the garden. As our experts ask; 'Why do you do this outside when you have warm class? They are running, playing, how do you keep these students outside? 'The answer they give when were more interesting. Because; "How do you keep so many students in a classroom? The principal odd is that!" they have told. In this way, students will remove, wear, will learn something that will lie down. They will learn in motion. The age is not the time of learning model to sit and shaking the head. To be open to new experiences, is important to learn by experiencing. Learning by experience is a 21st century skill. The flow path to this is teamwork.”
