Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan: “Ataturk was a good team leader”

Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founding leader of the Republic of Turkey, was commemorated on the 83rd anniversary of his death with an online panel titled "Ataturk and Leadership Psychology" organized by Uskudar University. Founding Rector of Uskudar University Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan said Ataturk's military leadership direction is strong.  Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan said that Gazi Mustafa Kemal Ataturk made decisions with his feelings in military leadership but decided with his mind in political leadership; "As with many charismatic leaders, he was a good team leader who didn't suddenly come out and make decisions, take too many risks, and combine emotion and reason," he said. Professor of Psychiatry Vamık Volkan stated that Ataturk directly and unconsciously united the mother and the homeland, and said that it can be seen how he wants to save the mother he considers his homeland.

Uskudar University organized a panel titled "Ataturk and Leadership Psychology" on the 83rd anniversary of Ataturk's death. The online panel was moderated by Uskudar University Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences Assistant Dean and Faculty of History Department faculty member Assoc. Prof. Hadiye Yilmaz Odabasi.

The Founding Rector of Uskudar University, Psychiatrist Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, gave the opening speech of the panel and evaluated Ataturk's leadership from the perspective of military genius. Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, who started his remarks by revering Gazi Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, said, "In fact, it is necessary to emphasize as understanding. Ataturk's motto at the university is 'I leave no verses, no dogma, no frozen and stereotyped rules as spiritual heritage. My spiritual heritage is knowledge and reason. I would like to remind you that if those who want to adopt after me accept the guidance of reason and knowledge on this basic axis, they will be my spiritual heirs'. He didn't want to be connected to himself, to respect him, as a dogmatic attachment. He saw it as important to connect using a non-dogmatic mind. In this context, we have written the words 'My spiritual heritage is reason and knowledge' on the campuses of our university."
