Dr. Toktaş completed his undergraduate degree at Bursa Uludağ University and his Neurosurgery training at Istanbul Marmara University Hospital, Department of Neurosurgery in 2008. The thesis title was “Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms and Their Role in Lumbar Disc Degeneration”. He started his professional career at Marmara University Neurosurgery Department in 2003. In 2012, he was promoted to the faculty degree. He received the title of associate professor in 2017. He worked with an average performance of 400 surgeries per year. He pioneered the use of advanced imaging and case-based preoperative evaluation strategies for neurosurgery in Turkey. Under his supervision, a total of 5 international and 16 local scholars have been trained. The H index is currently 14. His research has focused mainly on the genetics and biology of neural system tumors, nervous system tumors, treatment in the aging spine, advanced imaging systems, spinal intradural tumors and pediatric spine surgery. He published many multicenter studies in cooperation with Harvard (USA), UCSF (USA), Cha (Korea), Acıbadem (Turkey), BAU (Turkey) universities and their affiliates. He continues his career as a lecturer in the Turkish Spine Association "Eurospine Training Modules".
