Sultan Tarlacı was born in Rize, Turkey in 1970. He finished medical school in 1995 and specialized in neurology in 2000. He was awarded a Research Encouragement Award by the Society of Brain Research (2000), a Research Encouragement Award by TUBITAK Society of Brain Research (2001), the Sedat Simavi Health Sciences Award by the Society of Turkish Journalists (2003), NeoCortex Prize (2014). Tarlacı is a study member of the Neurology Intensive Care and Cognitive Neuroscience Group. He is the author of a medical textbook titled Neurologic Emergency Disease: Current Diagnosis and Treatment (2011) and four recently published popular books titled Crime and Brain (2017), From Cave to Mars (2017), Death’Dic (2016), Why Schrödinger's cat became schizophrenic? (2016) and NeuroQuantology (New York, 2014).
Tarlacı is the publisher, founder, and chief editor of Neuroquantology, an interdisciplinary neuroscience journal. NeuroQuantology is a quarterly peer reviewed interdisciplinary scientific journal that covers the intersection of neuroscience and quantum mechanics. It was established by Sultan Tarlacı in April 2003. It is abstracted and indexed in the Science Citation Index Expanded and according to the Journal Citation Reports, the journal has a 2016 impact factor of 0.5, ranking it 240th out of 251 journals in the category Neuroscience. The journal focusing primarily on original reports of experimental and theoretical research. It also publishes literature reviews, methodological articles, empirical findings, book reviews, news, comments, letters, and abstracts. He is the author of over 50 papers on various aspects of neurology, neuroscience, philosophy and also psychology. In addition, he writes popular science articles for popular journals like Popüler Bilim and Bilim ve Teknik. His main research interest is the application of quantum physics to the nervous system, neuropsychology, neurophilosophy and clinical electrophysiology.
