Süleyman İrvan graduated from the Gazi University School of Journalism and Public Relations, received his master's degree from the University of West Florida, USA in Communication Arts, and his doctorate from the Institute of Social Sciences at Ankara University in Journalism. He worked as an assistant professor at Gazi University Faculty of Communication between 1999-2002 and as an associate professor at the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies of Eastern Mediterranean University between 2002-2007. In 2007, he transferred to Faculty of Communication at Akdeniz University. In 2008, Süleyman İrvan received his professorship title. He was appointed as the dean of the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies at Eastern Mediterranean University in 2010, where he served for 5 years.
Prof. Süleyman İrvan started the first newspaper ombudsmanship in Cyprus in 2012, and became the first newspaper ombudsman of the Yenidüzen newspaper, and made the newspaper as a member of the International Organization of News Ombudsmen (ONO). Süleyman İrvan who left the newspaper ombudsmanship in 2014, was selected as one of the two representatives of the Communication Faculties of the Media Ethics Council, which was established in TRNC in 2013. He chaired the Media Ethics Council for two years until 2015. In 2017, he was selected as a member of the Accreditation Board for Communication Education (İLEDAK).
In addition to translated and edited books in communication, he has publications on journalism, news, journalism ethics, peace journalism, press history, oral history and communication theories.
Prof. Süleyman İrvan has begun working for the Faculty of Communication at Uskudar University, and he currently serves as the chair of the New Media and Journalism Department. He also represents the Faculty as a member at the University Senate.
