Süleyman İrvan completed his undergraduate education at Gazi University School of Press and Broadcasting, his master's degree at the University of West Florida in the USA, and his doctorate in journalism at Ankara University Social Sciences Institute. İrvan, who worked as an Assistant Professor at Gazi University Faculty of Communication between 1999-2002 and as an associate professor at Eastern Mediterranean University Faculty of Communication between 2002-2007, moved to Akdeniz University Faculty of Communication in 2007. Süleyman İrvan, who received the title of professor in 2008, was appointed as the dean of the Faculty of Communication at Eastern Mediterranean University, where he went with an assignment in 2010, and served for 5 years.
In 2012, Prof. Süleyman İrvan started the first readers' representative institution across Cyprus. İrvan, who was the first reader's representative of Yenidüzen newspaper, made the newspaper a member of the International Organization of Readers' Representatives (ONO). Süleyman İrvan, who resigned from his position as readers' representative in 2014, was elected to the Media Ethics Committee established in the TRNC in 2013 as one of the two representatives of the Faculties of Communication and assumed the chairmanship of the Media Ethics Committee. İrvan, who left the Media Ethics Committee in 2015, was elected to the Communication Education Evaluation Accreditation Board (İLEDAK) in 2017 and continued this duty until 2019.
Prof. Süleyman İrvan has been working at Üsküdar University Faculty of Communication since February 2017. Between 2017-2023, Irvan was the Head of the Department of Journalism, and Prof. İrvan, who served as the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Communication between April 1, 2023 and January 10, 2024, was appointed as the Advisor to the Rector on January 12, 2024.
