Prof. Dr. Şükrü TORUN, who graduated from Anadolu University on 01. 10. 2023, completed his medical and neurology education in 1983 and 1991 at Hacettepe and Eskişehir Osmangazi University Faculty of Medicine.
In addition to his studies in the field of neurology, Dr. Torun has been continuing his research, practice, scientific publication, refereeing, editing, etc. activities in the fields of language-cognition-music-brain relations in developmental and acquired neurological diseases and music therapy for neuropsychosocial disorders for many years. In addition to his academic studies, Dr. Torun has also held various administrative positions such as Deputy Chief Physician of FSOGU Faculty of Medicine Hospital, Chief Physician of Anadolu University Hospital, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Head of the Department of Speech and Language Therapy, Head of the Department of Music Therapy (Founding), member of the Board of Directors of the Institute, Faculty, Children's University, ESTU-Es IBE and member of the Scientific Research and Publication Ethics Board of Health Sciences. Torun, who is also an active member of the 'Dementia-Behavioral Neurology', 'Quality of Life in Neurological Diseases' and 'Neurorehabilitation' scientific working groups affiliated to the Turkish Neurological Association, has been working as a member of these groups since 2017.
He is a member of GETAT Science/Advisory Commission of the Ministry of Health.
Prof. Dr. Şükrü TORUN has contributed to the realization of many firsts in academia with his interdisciplinary working approach. He initiated the first "Specific Learning Disorder-Dyslexia" courses in Speech-Language Pathology undergraduate and graduate programs, and pioneered speech-language pathologists to become increasingly effective in the field of "dyslexia", which was previously limited to the perspective of special education, with the doctoral theses and projects he supervised on the subject. He has ensured that music therapy is included in medical education programs with his elective course titled "Music Applications in Speech and Language Therapy and Music Therapy" in Anadolu University Speech and Language Therapy undergraduate and graduate programs since 2012-2013 academic year and with the courses he has been teaching at Eskişehir Osmangazi University Faculty of Medicine since 2017.
Torun is one of the first three physicians authorized by the Turkish Ministry of Health to practice music therapy and the founder of Turkey's first Music Therapy Unit approved by the Ministry of Health. Finally, he was the head of Turkey's first Music Therapy Department and Music Therapy Master's Program, which he established with the important support of our Rectorate and Institute administrations and was approved by YÖK on August 11, 2021 and implemented within Anadolu University Health Sciences.
Şükrü Torun, who has focused his current studies on Neuroreactive Music Therapy applications developed for physical, cognitive and psychosocial disorders such as Alzheimer's Disease, Parkinson's Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Aphasia, Dyslexia, Developmental Coordination Disorder and Autism, mental health, network and systems neuroscience, transdiagnostic approaches and EU Projects, is married and has two children.
