Prof. Dr. Selma Doğan was born in Ankara. She finished Hacettepe University Health College in 1979 and worked as a nurse in the Psychiatry Clinic of the same hospital for five years. After she graduated ranking first from Hacettepe University High School of Nursing in 1984, she worked as a research assistant in the same university until 1991. She received her degree of science specialization in the area of “psychiatry nursing” in 1987 and doctoral degree in 1993 in the same field. In 1991, she worked as a “teaching assistant” at Cumhuriyet University High School of Nursing and was appointed to the position of “assistant professor” in the same university in 1993. She received the titles of “psychiatry nursing associate professor” and “professor” again in the same university in 1997 and 2005. During the years she worked at Cumhuriyet University, she performed various administrative duties such as the vice-principal, head of department, director of graduate school and institute chairwoman. She also took part in the foundation of Cumhuriyet University Psychiatry Clinic. She organized several scientific professional activities, issued the magazine called Cumhuriyet University High School of Nursing Magazine (the first refereed journal in Turkey in the field of nursing) and worked in many committees at the university, and carried out studies on curriculum development in nursing education. In 2011, she retired from the same university at her own will and worked as a faculty member at Maltepe University High School of Nursing for one- year period following her retirement. Currently, she continues with her academic life as the Director of Health Sciences Institute and Head of Nursing Department in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Uskudar University.
