Prof.Dr.Şefik Dursun was born in Ünye at 01 February 1949. He was graduated from primary and secondary school in Ünye. Later on, he won the Perşembe Teacher School exam as first of all students. According to his high success that he presented at first two years, he was directed to İstanbul-Çapa High Teacher School in İstanbul.
He was graduated from this Science High School at 1966 and succeeded at university exam. He was registered to the Physics and Chemistry Department of Faculty of Science ,İstanbul University. He was graduated from both İstanbul University Faculty of Science and İstanbul-Çapa High Teacher School at 1970.
He presented his PhD in the department of Biophysics in Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine at İstanbul University. His PhD supervisor was Prof.Dr.Meliha Terzioğlu, is the wife of Prof.Dr.Nazım Terzioğlu who is the constituent Rector of Karadeniz Technical University, had done the first Biophysics Doctorate in Turkey (1976-1981).
According to 39th article of Higher Education Law with the number of 2547, he teached Biophysics lessons at Uludağ University Faculty of Medicine between the years 1984-1985 and 1985-1986.
He deserved his Associate Professor title at 1987 and Professor title at 1993.
Behind the academic activities, he had a mission of arrangement of education bustles at Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine’s Academic Board as an Associate Proffesor ( 09.09.1991-29.07.1993) and Professor (25.09.1996-25.09.1999) representative.
He was choosen at the Head of Biophysics Department at 09.08.1996 at first time. Because of having the students using scarfs in his lessons, at 28 February Postmodern coup period, he was taken from his duty as being Head of Department at 08.07.1998. And after this period he was selected again as the Head of Biophysics Department at 10.10.2006. He had presented this mission until 23.03.2015.
He was a constituent member of Turkey Volunteery Organisation Foundation (TGTV) that was established 22 March 1994. He has been currently carrying out his duty as a membership of The Board of Trustees and High Advisory Council of TGTV.Also he has membership of Turkish Biophysical Society, Turkish Respiratory Society and University Academic Stafs Solidarity Society.
Between the years 2009-2012, he wrote as a columnist at the Yeni Akit newspaper about the political and actual events.
For 3 months (19.08.2013 -19.11.2013), he had been as a visiting professor at De Montfort University ,Faculty of Health and Life Sciences at Leicester-England , according to 39th article of Higher Education Law with the number of 2547.
He has nearly 100 articles that published at national and international journals and rescripts that were presented at congresses. He is the editor and section author of two books
;Biophysics Textbook and Biophysics Application Book that the students and academicians of medecine faculty can benefit.
As he had been working at Biophysics Department of Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine, he was retired at the date of 1 February 2016. Prof.Dr. Şefik DURSUN has three doctor daughters and a university student son.He has been working at Üsküdar University from the date of 18 July 2016.
