He was born in 1964 in Emirdağ (Afyonkarahisar) and completed both his primary and secondary education in there. He graduated from Selçuk University in 1984 and worked as Biology teacher for one year. He was appointed as Research assistant in Biology Education department of Selçuk University in 1985. He completed his MSc thesis in 1988 and was sent to University of Wales, Swansea to do his doctoral studies. After completing his PhD, he returned to Selçuk University. He completed his compulsory military service in GATA (Gülhane Military Medicinal Academy, Ankara) and got his Associate Professorship in Molecular Biology in 1996.
He was then appointed as Full professorship in Molecular Biology department of Afyon Kocatepe University (AKU) in 2002. He was appointed as both Coordinator of Vocational Schools of AKU and Dean of the Faculty of Science and Literature. He has also managed the International relations of the AKU. He worked in a number of Commissions established by the presidency of the University both as chair and member.
He was appointed to the Board of Trustees of Swansea University, where he completed his doctorate, twice in 2012 and 2015. In addition, he studied at the University of Leeds after his doctorate.
He served as Director of SHMYO, Director of the Institute of Science and Social Sciences, PARGE Coordinator, Director of the Biotechnology Research and Application Center, Head of the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics (Eng.), Head of the Department of Common Courses, and Vice Rector between 2013 and 2024 at Üsküdar University. He currently works as a faculty member at the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics (Eng.) of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences and Advisor to the Rector
He took part in numerous Postgraduate theses and research projects (National and International) and pioneered the establishment of the Molecular Neuroscience PhD program, a first in Turkey. He is currently the head of this program.
He is married with three children.
