Haydar SUR, MD , Ph.D

Born in Konya in 1961, he graduated from Istanbul Faculty of Medicine in 1986. He completed his compulsory service as Assistant Health Director in Muş Province. In 1988, he was assigned to the Ministry of Health Central Organization, General Directorate of Basic Health Services, Department of Infectious Diseases, where he worked on immunization and the fight against infectious diseases. In 1989, he was assigned to Istanbul Health Directorate and served as Assistant Director until 1996 with a 2-year interruption. In 1994, he received his Master's degree in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and in 1996 he received his PhD degree in Public Health from Istanbul University Institute of Health Sciences. In 1996, he was appointed as an Assistant Professor at Marmara University, Faculty of Health Education, Department of Health Management. He became Associate Professor of Public Health in 1998 and Professor of Health Management in 2003. In Marmara University Faculty of Health Sciences, he served as the Head of the Department for 14 years, Vice Dean for eight years and Acting Dean for one year.

In 2009, he was appointed as the founding dean of Istanbul University Faculty of Health Sciences. He served as the Head of the Department of Health Management and Dean of the Faculty at the same faculty until 2014.

In 2014, he served as Vice Rector, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences and Head of the Department of Health Management at Biruni University for 2 years.

In 2016, he served as the Dean of Üsküdar University Faculty of Health Sciences and Director of the Institute of Health Sciences. Since 2019, he has been the Founding Dean of the Faculty of Medicine.

Within the Department of Public Health, he continues his studies especially in the fields of Health Management, Health Policies and Systems, Epidemiology and Biostatistics. Until today, he has taught undergraduate, graduate and doctoral courses in a total of 36 courses under 13 different universities. He has 43 articles in international indexes and approximately 200 national publications. He has authored 18 books as editor and/or chapter author.
