After graduating from Marmara University English Language Teaching undergraduate program in 1998, Başak Ergil received her master's degree from Boğaziçi University Institute of Social Sciences Translation Studies program in 2005 and her doctoral degree from Istanbul University Translation Studies program in 2016. Since 1998, she has also worked as an executive in the sector in the fields such as translation, editing and proofreading in addition to working as an instructor and faculty member in various state and foundation universities. Her books titled The Image of Nâzım Hikmet and His Poetry in Anglo-American Literary Systems and 1930’lardan Günümüze İngiliz-Amerikan Yayın Dünyasında Nâzım Hikmet İmajı (The Image of Nâzım Hikmet in the British-American Publishing World from the 1930s to the Present) were published separately in English and Turkish by Nâzım Hikmet Culture and Art Foundation Publications. Her main areas of interest are contemporary translation theories, translation ethics, translation criticism, theatrical translation, the history of translation and publishing, and recolonization through translation.
