"Avoid distractions and increase your productivity!"
Pointing out the importance of setting goals and studying efficiently to succeed in the university entrance exam, Psychological Counselor Özgür Akoğlan stated that "During study sessions and breaks, it is important to stay away from distractions such as television, phones, and the Internet, as they can hinder study productivity."
Akoğlan recommended the Pomodoro technique (25 minutes of study followed by a 5-minute break) for students with focus problems and added that "Attending class prepared will increase study productivity by 100%."
Üsküdar University Educational Institutions and Guidance Services Manager, Psychological Counselor Özgür Akoğlan, evaluated the importance of goal setting and efficient studying for success in the university entrance exam.
Focus and logic-based questions are more prevalent
Stating that the key to success in the university entrance exam lies in accurately identifying topic gaps, setting specific and clear goals, creating an effective study method, and increasing motivation, Psychological Counselor Özgür Akoğlan said that "In recent years, ÖSYM has changed its question style, with a greater emphasis on analytical thinking and questions that assess focus, interpretation, and logic."
What should an efficient study environment be like?
Psychological Counselor Özgür Akoğlan explained how the study environment should be organized for effective learning and made the following remarks: "The study desk should only have the materials necessary for studying. The room should neither be too hot nor too cold. During study sessions and breaks, it is important to avoid distractions such as television, phones, and the Internet, as these can hinder study productivity. Music should not be listened to while studying and during breaks, and if music is to be listened to, instrumental music is more suitable. Continuously eating or chewing gum will reduce focus. Additionally, studying while hungry or tired negatively affects study productivity. At the end of the day, it is essential to review the topics studied that day. As much as possible, related questions and tests should be solved."
The study plan should include weekends!
Psychological Counselor Özgür Akoğlan also emphasized that the most efficient study plan would be to start with the hardest subject and move towards the easier ones. "The study plan should include every day of the week (including Saturday and Sunday). Starting at the same time each day is beneficial. Students with focus issues should use the Pomodoro technique (25 minutes of study followed by a 5-minute break)."
Do not Accumulate Topics!
Psychological Counselor Özgür Akoğlan, while emphasizing the importance of creating a study plan, stated that one can list the tasks to be done and organize them in order of priority according to the individual's needs. Akoğlan said that "All subjects should be studied as they are taught, and topics should not be accumulated. When reviewing lessons, unclear topics should be identified and learned by asking the teacher without delay. Incorrect or unsolved questions should be reviewed and corrected just like unclear topics."
Do not Study in Front of the TV, Do not Change Your Study Spot!
Özgür Akoğlan also mentioned that after studying a numerical subject, it is helpful to continue with a verbal subject. He added that "While studying a verbal subject, key words and sentences can be highlighted with colored pens. Never study in front of the TV. Don’t change your study location. Make sure to read for at least 30 minutes every day."
Preparation for Lessons Increases Efficiency by 100%!
Providing tips for efficient studying, Özgür Akoğlan concluded his remarks as follows: "Being prepared for class will increase your study efficiency by 100%. Remember, anyone who knows their mistakes and corrects them can easily achieve their goals with good study habits."
