Tuğba BAL, Ph.D.

Dr. Tuğba Bal holds her undergraduate degree from İstanbul Technical University, Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics in 2010. During her education, she was the winner of Dr. Orhan Öcalgiray Success Award. She pursued her MS career with scholarship in Koç University, Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering until 2012. Later, in the following years, she completed her PhD education and received Koç University Academic Excellence Award. During her graduate studies, she has been honored with TUBITAK BIDEB fellowship, worked as a teaching assistant in Koç University and contributed to national/international projects granted by university and TUBITAK. Between 2018 and 2020, she was staff of the Bezmialem Foundation University Beykoz Institute of Life Sciences and Biotechnology. During her PhD studies, Dr. Bal studied on tissue engineering and more specifically, she published scientific article mainly on immunoisolation and type I diabetes. She focused on biomaterial and/or cellbased immunoisolation of insulin secreting cells. Further, she joined interuniversity research on materials for biomedical applications. Her current interests rely on the area of development of bioartificial systems, cell behavior in biomaterials, morphology and activity analysis, as well as in vitro vascularization.
