Öznur Karakaş completed her undergraduate studies in the Department of Translation and Interpreting Studies at Boğaziçi University (BU). She then pursued master's degrees in philosophy, first at Galatasaray University and later as part of the Europhilosophie program at the University of Toulouse-Jean Jaures and Charles University in Prague. She earned her PhD at the Open University of Catalonia (UOC), Interdisciplinary Internet Institute (IN3), in the Information and Knowledge Society Doctoral Program with a dissertation on social movements as assemblages, based on data from Gezi Movement.
From 2021 to 2023, she worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Uppsala University on a project focusing on gender, epistemic cultures, and interdisciplinary collaboration practices in e-science. The results of this research have been published in the journals Minerve: Science, Learning and Policy [SSCI] and Science and Technology Studies [SSCI].
She also worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), participating in the EU projects Robotics4EU: Robotics With and For Society and BIAS: Mitigating AI Diversity Biases in the Labour Market within the Horizon 2020 framework. Her research interests include science and technology studies, philosophy, new media, gender, social movements, higher education studies, and critical data studies. Karakaş has also worked as a translator and interpreter, translating numerous fiction and non-fiction books and articles from Spanish, French and English, as well as serving as a conference interpreter at various events. She is one of the founding editors of the digital magazine, Terrabayt.
