" Turkish Cinematheque Talk" organized by Üsküdar University Radio, Television and Cinema Department was held at the Communication Faculty Fuat Sezgin Conference Hall. The guest of the program was Jak Şalom, who was the first registered member of the Turkish Cinematheque Association and had the number 1 member ID card, and worked professionally at the Turkish Cinematheque Association between 1966-1972 and at the French Cinematheque between 1972-1977. Üsküdar University Head of Radio, Television and Cinema Department Assoc. Dr. In the event moderated by İsmail Arda Odabaşı, the works, activities and projects of the Cinematheque Association, which was founded in 1965 and is revived today, were discussed. At the same time, Jak Shalom gave information to the audience about cinema culture and film collection from past to present. Mentioning what the Cinematheque is, Şalom said that we should see the Cinematheque as a museum, and that the Cinematheque is like a painting museum or a sculpture museum. He added that the word "Cinematheque" means "Cinema House". “It advocates a cinema that has an artistic aspect, not a commercial aspect” Talking about the purpose of the Cinematheque Association, Şalom said that today the cinemas work for commercial purposes and they no longer follow the old artistic concerns. He said that the Cinematheque Association is defending a cinema in which the artistic side of the cinema predominates, not the commercial one. “One cannot become a novelist without reading a novel, and a filmmaker without watching a film” Saying that every job requires a certain skill and experience, Şalom said, “Just as a person who has never read a novel in his life cannot become a novelist, one cannot become a filmmaker without watching a movie. The rich cruise experience provides you with savings”. “Cinematheques are collection houses” Saying that Cinematheques emerged as a result of accumulation, Şalom stated that their contents include not only films, but also symbolic examples such as film archives, film photographs, clothing related to films, and scripts. He added that all of these were brought together and preserved over long periods of time. “If you want to enjoy the movie, watch the movie at the cinema” Saying that watching movies used to be a technique that required mastery, Şalom said that these techniques are gradually disappearing today, and that everyone watches movies on their mobile phones instead of going to the cinema to watch movies, and in the end, there is no pleasure. Providing concrete examples in the continuation of his words, Şalom said, “If you want to enjoy the Mona Lisa, you have to go and see it in France, you cannot get pleasure by seeing its photo on the phone screen. In the same way, if you want to enjoy the movie, you have to watch the movie in the cinema.” Touching on the re-establishment of the Cinematheque Association, Şalom gave information about the building under construction and the planned works. “We want filmmakers to own this structure” Stating that the cinema is a cultural heritage that should be protected, Şalom said that the building, which is under construction, is open to everyone and every activity. He especially wanted filmmakers to protect this structure and to pass it on to future generations.

Live production expert Yakup Gümüş from Mediacast Agency was the guest of the workshops organized by Üsküdar University Communication Faculty Radio, Television and Cinema Department. Üsküdar University Communication Faculty Radio, Television and Cinema Department organized the second collective workshop with Mediacast Agency within the scope of activities and workshops aimed at helping students develop the skills they will need in the sector. Live production expert Yakup Gümüş, in his presentation titled 'Live production&streaming', shared his experiences in working life, how to take the streaming quality to the next level. Introducing the tools required in the live broadcast, Gümüş said: “Camera, light, microphones, transmitters, switcher, playout, title creator, streaming soft, ingest, converters, CCU and audio mixer are the tools used in live broadcasting” and gave information to the students about the tools. “You can't save the live broadcast on the desk” Yakup Gümüş: “You cannot save the live broadcast on the desk. You can't say if the color is bad, I'll fix it in assembly. While working in TRT Çamlıca, the HD output of the satellite vehicle was burned before the live broadcast. If you can't go on the air in HD, you will pay forty times the penalty. Since the HD output was burned, we decided to output SD. But because the texts were adjusted to 4K, a huge network went to TRT's screen. We had to give the whole publication without adding text and logo. I corrected the text and logos until the re-broadcast in the evening and put them back on the air. The reason I'm telling you this is that it was very difficult to back up a device three or five years ago. Now, institutions have more than one backup device. In the past, a vehicle was sent for live broadcast news. There were 60 vehicles in Istanbul at the time of Gezi Park, but now there are not even 6 vehicles. Because there is no need. One backpack is enough now. With Atem mini, you can broadcast live alone and select the images you want. It can do what many of the vehicles I described at the beginning do.” “You have to win the audience in fifteen seconds” Providing information about the live broadcast, Yakup Gümüş said: “The most important thing when broadcasting live is to create the work-flow. After answering the questions of what we do, what we shoot, how we will broadcast, what we need is revealed. Whether you have the world's best camera or the best broadcast switcher, no one will watch you if your content is bad. When creating the work-flow, you should create it according to your content. Live streaming time on YouTube is fifteen seconds. You have to be able to win the audience in fifteen seconds.” Explaining the differences between TCP and UDP protocol to students, Bilgehan Çoruhlu from Mediacast Agency said, “Our entire internet network works over TCP. But when you start to transfer data, UDP can come in. It is about giving the opportunity to correct the error in cases such as erroneous data transfer in protocols. TCP provides this opportunity. TCP also stops sending when something to send is interrupted. In UDP, the stream is continuous. Even if you don't send it, it will flow."

Radio, Television and Cinema Department held a documentary fiction production workshop Mert Kafalı, one of the trainers of Mediacast Agency, was the guest of the workshops organized by Üsküdar University Communication Faculty, Radio, Television and Cinema Department. Üsküdar University Faculty of Communication, Department of Radio, Television and Cinema continues the workshops carried out with the Mediacast Agency in order to enable students to develop the skills they will need in the sector. DaVinci Resolve instructor Mert Kafalı explained the production of documentary editing to the students through the DaVinci program. He gave information about the shortcuts of the program, how the effects are arranged, coloring, cut editing, printing and the advantages of the program in the industry. Demonstrated practical use of 'Editor Keyboard'. Mert Kafalı, who said that editing was done faster and simpler with the "Editor Keyboard" with the development process of the program, stated that operations such as moving the image to the timeline, cutting the image, redesigning and adding transitions can be done from this keyboard. The students were given the opportunity to practice using the keyboard. It was stated that with the advancing technology, the use of DaVinci Resolve and Editor Keyboard has gained importance in the sector. “Image problems occur when using compressed images” Mentioning that there are visual problems such as light ratios, exploding places and light intensity in the use of compressed images taken with any camera, Mert Kafalı said that camera manufacturers have recently developed a new concept to prevent this and each manufacturer has given a different name. Talking about the importance of the raw image format in editing, Kafalı said, “Cameras that shoot by producing compressed files cannot write the color data on the file. Even though it is tried to be prevented with new technology, it saves us up to a point. In order to prevent this, the image format used in the cinema, 'RAW', that is, the raw image should be used. 'Blackmagic RAW' produced on Blackmagic cameras works more regularly," he said and made edits on the sample images. “The program has special settings for platforms like Netflix” When it comes to the printing part, Mert Kafalı mentioned that it is possible to print in the format Netflix wants and 40 different languages can be included in a project; “40 different subtitle channels can be put on Netflix while the series is being produced. Subtitle channels are synchronized with the audio. With this method, we can also put dubbing on separate channels. In arrays, each layer is usually separate. Effects are separate, retouches are separate, sound is separate, dialogues are separate, background music is on separate layers. The dubbing studio takes this project, arranges the places that need to be changed. For example, he takes the English dubbing, translates it into Turkish and changes the project by putting it where it should be. There is a convenience provided, the whole project is not printed, the Turkish dubbing part is printed and included in the main project. Thus, files can be received from different countries. Netflix uploads the received files to its system and can be watched anywhere in the world.” Source: Haber Üsküdar
