Radio, Television and Cinema Department held a documentary fiction production workshop
Mert Kafalı, one of the trainers of Mediacast Agency, was the guest of the workshops organized by Üsküdar University Communication Faculty, Radio, Television and Cinema Department.
Üsküdar University Faculty of Communication, Department of Radio, Television and Cinema continues the workshops carried out with the Mediacast Agency in order to enable students to develop the skills they will need in the sector. DaVinci Resolve instructor Mert Kafalı explained the production of documentary editing to the students through the DaVinci program. He gave information about the shortcuts of the program, how the effects are arranged, coloring, cut editing, printing and the advantages of the program in the industry.
Demonstrated practical use of 'Editor Keyboard'.
Mert Kafalı, who said that editing was done faster and simpler with the "Editor Keyboard" with the development process of the program, stated that operations such as moving the image to the timeline, cutting the image, redesigning and adding transitions can be done from this keyboard. The students were given the opportunity to practice using the keyboard. It was stated that with the advancing technology, the use of DaVinci Resolve and Editor Keyboard has gained importance in the sector.
“Image problems occur when using compressed images”
Mentioning that there are visual problems such as light ratios, exploding places and light intensity in the use of compressed images taken with any camera, Mert Kafalı said that camera manufacturers have recently developed a new concept to prevent this and each manufacturer has given a different name. Talking about the importance of the raw image format in editing, Kafalı said, “Cameras that shoot by producing compressed files cannot write the color data on the file. Even though it is tried to be prevented with new technology, it saves us up to a point. In order to prevent this, the image format used in the cinema, 'RAW', that is, the raw image should be used. 'Blackmagic RAW' produced on Blackmagic cameras works more regularly," he said and made edits on the sample images.
“The program has special settings for platforms like Netflix”
When it comes to the printing part, Mert Kafalı mentioned that it is possible to print in the format Netflix wants and 40 different languages can be included in a project; “40 different subtitle channels can be put on Netflix while the series is being produced. Subtitle channels are synchronized with the audio. With this method, we can also put dubbing on separate channels. In arrays, each layer is usually separate. Effects are separate, retouches are separate, sound is separate, dialogues are separate, background music is on separate layers. The dubbing studio takes this project, arranges the places that need to be changed. For example, he takes the English dubbing, translates it into Turkish and changes the project by putting it where it should be. There is a convenience provided, the whole project is not printed, the Turkish dubbing part is printed and included in the main project. Thus, files can be received from different countries. Netflix uploads the received files to its system and can be watched anywhere in the world.”
