STUDENT AND INTERN JOB DESCRIPTIONS
Job Description: To define the duties, roles, and responsibilities that Faculty of Medicine students are obliged to fulfill throughout their education during the general, preclinical, clinical, and internship periods.
Senior Administrator(s): Phase coordinators, vice deans, and the dean are defined as the student's sequential supervisors during the educational process.
Scope of Duty: Encompasses the responsibilities of all students studying at Uskudar University Faculty of Medicine.
GENERAL COMMON RESPONSIBILITIES (FOR ALL PHASES)
- Students are subject to and must be knowledgeable about the Higher Education Law No. 2547, the Uskudar University Student Rights, Responsibilities, and Code of Conduct Regulations, and the Uskudar University Education, Training, and Examination Regulations.
- It is the student's responsibility to follow the academic calendar published annually and to complete registration renewal procedures within the specified periods. Students who do not renew their registration cannot attend courses or examinations and forfeit their educational rights.
- Students must regularly access official announcements and information via their institutional email address and the official website.
- Students must access the systems used by the faculty in the educational program (such as KEYPS, STİX) and keep their user credentials confidential.
- Requests and suggestions must be submitted to the appropriate units through the class representative and the academic advisor.
- Punctual attendance to courses and fulfilling the mandatory attendance requirements are essential. In case of excused absences, supporting documents must be submitted to the relevant units.
- Students are aware that if they exceed the absence limit, they will not be allowed to take the exams and must repeat the academic year.
- Students must avoid behaviors that disrupt the integrity of the courses.
- Academic responsibilities such as exams, assignments, and reports must be fulfilled on time and in accordance with the rules.
- Carrying student identification/badge cards at all times is mandatory.
- Wearing a white lab coat is required in laboratories and practical application areas. Students must maintain a professional attitude in appearance, attire, and behavior.
- As long as students are present in units outside the faculty and campus for training, practicals, or applications, they are obliged to comply with the rules of the respective unit.
- Students must use all equipment, machinery, and areas of the university with care and avoid causing any damage.
- Students must protect and safeguard the university's tools, equipment, and movable or immovable property as if it were their own.
- Students must be respectful toward faculty members, staff, and other students, and avoid relationships that create a conflict of interest.
- Consumption of alcohol, drugs, and tobacco products is strictly prohibited within the campus.
- In common areas such as the cafeteria, study halls, and the library, students must refrain from attitudes and behaviors that disturb the peace or hinder the study of others, or disturb staff in the offices.
- The university network and digital facilities must be used solely for academic purposes. Illegal and unethical use must be avoided.
- Feedbacks regarding the educational program must be submitted through the system on time. The class representative and/or year coordinator is responsible for its follow-up.
- Students must adhere to the scheduled appointment system for meetings with academic advisors.
PRECLINICAL PERIOD (PHASE I-II-III)
Objective: Acquiring knowledge in basic medical sciences, gaining laboratory skills, and developing ethical values and professional attitudes.
- Attends theoretical courses and laboratory practices regularly where attendance is mandatory.
- Pays strict attention to the start times of the courses.
- Wears a white lab coat during laboratory practices and complies with the rules of the respective laboratory.
- Shows the necessary care when using the lecture hall and laboratory materials during education.
- Keeps the student identification card present at all times. Scans it at campus and hospital entrances and exits. Does not allow its use by anyone else.
- Behaves respectfully toward teaching staff, administrative and support personnel, and other students.
- Follows announcements, news, and notifications regarding the academic calendar, syllabus, exams, etc., through digital applications such as the university website and the STİX application.
- Complies with the rules of face-to-face and online examinations.
- Prepares assigned duties such as homework and presentations within an ethical framework and submits them on time.
CLINICAL PERIOD – CLERKSHIP (PHASE IV-V)
Objective: Integrating clinical knowledge into bedside applications, taking patient history, performing physical examinations, and gaining basic interventional skills.
Position in the Organization: Operates under the supervision of the attending/responsible physician.
- Signs the Uskudar University Student Clerkship Contract.
- Participates regularly in clerkship programs and complies with the attendance requirements of theoretical and practical courses.
- Wears a white lab coat in clinics and wards, and required specialized scrubs in operating rooms and intensive care units. Students must not leave the operating room or wander around hospital corridors wearing these specialized scrubs.
- Behaves respectfully toward university and hospital staff and other students.
- Performs evaluations by introducing themselves to patients as a "Student Doctor" (Stajyer Doktor).
- Takes patient history (anamnesis), performs basic physical examinations, and maintains patient charts.
- Respects patient privacy and protects the confidentiality of patient information.
- Does not share medical data obtained in the hospital environment with anyone other than the patient and faculty members, does not use it for other purposes, and does not take patient files outside the hospital.
- Communicates effectively with patients, patients' relatives, and healthcare professionals.
- Acknowledges that the work performed as a clerk/trainee is purely for educational purposes and does not interfere with independent patient care.
- Avoids behaviors that endanger patient safety.
- Complies with the rules of the units attended for training and practical purposes.
- Completes occupational health and safety training and complies with safety measures in the workplace.
- Does not perform patient examinations alone without the permission and supervision of faculty members.
- Does not leave the hospital or work area without permission, and does not work in clinics or laboratories without authorization.
- Participates in ward rounds in line with the curriculum prepared by the department; observes all kinds of diagnostic and therapeutic medical interventions performed in outpatient clinics, wards, and other diagnostic/treatment units; and performs appropriate interventions under the permission and supervision of the instructor.
- Reports findings that require changes in diagnosis and treatment to the responsible physician.
- Does not perform patient transfers alone and does not take part in referrals outside the hospital.
- Contributes to educational processes with feedback and suggestions.
- Meticulously complies with hygiene and infection control measures.
- Acts in accordance with the hospital quality management system rules.
- Complies with examination rules.
- Shows the necessary care when using university and hospital equipment.
- Participates voluntarily in night shifts and clinical services (under the supervision of the teaching staff).
INTERNSHIP PERIOD (PHASE VI)
Objective: Gaining a sense of responsibility and professional competence by performing pre-graduation medical practices.
Position in the Organization: Operates under the supervision of the attending/responsible physician.
- Signs the Uskudar University Faculty of Medicine Intern Student Contract.
- Fulfills intern doctor responsibilities in clinical wards, outpatient clinics, operating rooms, intensive care units, and emergency departments.
- Performs clinical procedures under the supervision of the responsible physician.
- Participates in patient rounds and makes case presentations when necessary.
- Adheres to the working hours determined by the clinic of rotation; does not arrive late and maintains attendance.
- Ensures participation in meetings and training sessions specified by the Department.
- Works harmoniously with fellow interns and other healthcare professionals, and complies with ethical rules.
- Respects patient privacy and protects the confidentiality of patient information.
- Fulfills clinical and interventional skills under the supervision of the responsible physician.
- Protects patient files and hospital documents, paying attention to their confidentiality.
- Performs initial assessment and basic interventions in emergencies together with the team to which they are attached.
- Takes care of and protects the tools and equipment used in the clinic.
- Ensures the security of patient files and hospital documents.
- Does not leave the designated post during night shifts and carries out the shift handover properly.
- Fulfills night shift duties on official holidays and weekends.
- Participates in public health applications (vaccination, preventive health services, field studies).
