1. About Us

Üsküdar University Faculty of Medicine was established in 2019, building upon our university's deep-rooted academic heritage in health sciences and its human-centric educational approach. Our faculty aims to train physicians who embrace contemporary medical education, pioneer scientific research, adhere to ethical values, and remain responsive to societal needs.

Welcoming its inaugural students to the Turkish program in the 2019-2020 academic year and to the English program in the 2021-2022 academic year, our faculty has demonstrated remarkable growth in a short period. Since its inception, it has drawn distinct recognition for its powerful academic staff, modern educational infrastructure, and integrated curriculum structure. Our educational philosophy is based on integrated and student-centered models, aiming to provide our students with professional competence by effectively blending basic medical sciences with clinical practices.

Our clinical training is conducted within the framework of collaborations with various public and private sector hospitals, primarily NPİSTANBUL Brain Hospital, which is affiliated with our university. Furthermore, hands-on training sessions carried out in simulation laboratories, skills workshops, and multidisciplinary clinical areas foster our students' professional knowledge and skills, as well as their ethical sensitivity.

Our faculty celebrated its first graduating class on July 7, 2025. This date marks not only a graduation ceremony but also a historic milestone where our vision came to life and our qualified physician profile materialized. Under the leadership of our Founding Dean, Prof. Dr. Haydar Sur, an academic culture has been established where excellence in medical education, scientific productivity, and ethical responsibility stand at the forefront.

As of today, 1000 students are enrolled in our faculty. Our increasing quotas and academic demands serve as clear indicators of the trust placed in our faculty and the outstanding quality of our education.

2. Faculty Management Structure and Operations

Üsküdar University Faculty of Medicine features an organizational structure that is aligned with the university's general governance framework and strategic goals, where academic, administrative, and support units operate in coordination. Faculty management consists of the Dean, Vice Deans, the Faculty Board, and the Faculty Executive Board.

Dean

In accordance with Article 16 of Higher Education Law No. 2547, the Dean is the highest academic and administrative authority of the faculty. The Dean is appointed by the Council of Higher Education for a term of three years from among three professors nominated by the Rector. The Dean is responsible for the orderly operation of faculty units, the execution of educational activities, the development of scientific research, and the sustainability of quality assurance processes. Additionally, the Dean chairs the faculty boards and ensures the implementation of decisions made, as well as the execution of university senate resolutions at the faculty level.

Faculty Board

Pursuant to Article 17 of Law No. 2547, the Faculty Board is the academic decision-making body of the faculty. Chaired by the Dean, the Faculty Board consists of the Vice Deans, heads of departments affiliated with the faculty, and three professors elected from among the faculty members for a three-year term.

The Faculty Board is responsible for preparing educational plans, developing academic programs, determining exam and evaluation principles, establishing scientific research policies, and monitoring the academic dimension of quality processes.

Faculty Executive Board

Pursuant to Article 18 of Law No. 2547, the Faculty Executive Board is the decision-making body regarding the administrative operations of the faculty. Chaired by the Dean, the Faculty Executive Board consists of three professors, two associate professors, and one assistant professor elected by the Faculty Board for a term of three years. This board is tasked with ensuring coordination among faculty units, evaluating budget, investment, and personnel planning, deciding on administrative procedures regarding students, and ensuring that academic-administrative processes are carried out in compliance with legislation.

Departments and Academic Units

The Faculty of Medicine comprises three main divisions: the Division of Basic Medical Sciences, the Division of Internal Medical Sciences, and the Division of Surgical Medical Sciences. The Departments under these divisions conduct education, research, and community service activities. Heads of Departments are elected from among the faculty members and appointed by the Dean for a three-year term.

Administrative Units and Commissions

Within the administrative structure that supports academic units in faculty operations, the Faculty Secretariat, Student Affairs, the Quality Unit, and secretarial services take place. In addition, various boards and commissions function within the faculty, such as the Education Commission, Quality Commission, Scientific Research and Project Commission, Assessment and Evaluation Commission, and Internship Coordination. These structures ensure that the faculty's education, research, and societal contribution processes are carried out in an effective, transparent, and sustainable manner.

Management Approach and Operations

The management philosophy of Üsküdar University Faculty of Medicine is built upon the principles of participation, transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement. The views of faculty members, students, and stakeholders are highly valued and taken into consideration during academic and administrative decision-making processes.
