Institute For Sufi Studies Working Groups

In addition to the fundamental Islamic sciences, Sufism has a vast sphere of interest across existing fields of science and art, ranging from literature to philosophy, from history to sociology, from music to painting, and from political philosophy to popular culture. On closer inspection, it becomes clear that every study dealing with culture in this geography must refer to the field of Sufism. Today, research on Sufism also offers new perspectives to those interested in sociology and human psychology.

The working groups within the Institute For Sufi Studies are as follows:

2- Business and Work Ethics Group (click for information)

In order to approach subjects from a broad perspective, the Institute For Sufi Studies primarily aims to bring together all disciplinary perspectives. With this approach, it focuses on interdisciplinary studies in which topics, above all Sufi thought, history and literature, are addressed in relation to various disciplines of the humanities and social sciences and, where appropriate, of other fields.

Interdisciplinary studies are founded on bringing together different disciplines and researchers from different disciplines, thereby expanding the possibilities of thinking without conventional constraints and beyond familiar patterns. The literature does not yet contain sufficient accumulated knowledge on the new possibilities that will arise from the encounter of Sufism's own concepts and methods with other disciplines. The Institute works to contribute not only to the fields of Sufi thought, history and literature of Islamic civilization, but also, drawing on the outputs of the texts that serve as sources for such studies, to the development of an intellectual infrastructure that produces solutions in every area that concerns society, creates added value, shares social responsibility and influences sustainable development.

The education provided by the Institute within its Sufi Culture and Literature master's programs has been enriched by the Thought, History, and Literature of Islamic Civilization Doctorate Degree, offering deeper and broader opportunities from a scientific perspective. The doctoral program brings together in one center the relevant human profile that will support the research and projects of the working group.

This approach is intended to contribute to Türkiye-based civilization studies and to readings of Islamic civilization centered on Sufi thought. Ensuring that Turkish works take their deserved place in the literature of Islamic studies, and introducing through international publications the works produced by the Ottoman commentary (sharh) tradition, which are rare examples of Ottoman Sufi thought, are an important part and focus of this effort.
