In today’s world, where digitalization, global interaction, and social transformations are accelerating, communication plays a determining role in every field. At Üsküdar University Faculty of Communication, we empower future media professionals not just to witness change, but to lead it — through critical thinking, creativity, and a deep understanding of communication processes. As the methods of accessing and disseminating information continue to evolve, content production has become more democratized, and mass communication is increasingly mediated by new technologies. In this shifting landscape, communication is no longer limited to message transmission; it now entails constructing meaning, generating influence, and embracing social responsibility.
In response to this evolving communication landscape, Üsküdar University Faculty of Communication began offering degree programs in the 2013–2014 academic year with three departments: Communication Sciences, Radio-Television and Cinema, and New Media. Since then, it has established itself as a prominent institution among communication faculties, distinguished by its high-quality academic programs and growing body of scientific publications.
As of today, our faculty has 1,882 students in 8 departments: Cartoon and Animation, Journalism, Visual Communication Design, Public Relations and Publicity, Radio-Television and Cinema, Advertising, New Media and Communication (Turkish), and New Media and Communication (English).
As Üsküdar University Faculty of Communication, we strive to provide an education that maintains a balance between theoretical and practical courses, and we are taking major steps every year to improve our education quality. We also certify the quality of our education with accreditations we receive from the Communication Research Association (İLAD). So far, Journalism, Visual Communication Design, Advertising, Public Relations and Publicity, and Radio, Television, and Cinema programs at Üsküdar University Faculty of Communication have been accredited by İLAD.
Our academic staff continues to grow and diversify each year. As of May 2025, the faculty comprises 5 full professors, 9 associate professors, 18 assistant professors, and 15 research assistants. With upcoming additions, these numbers are expected to increase further. In addition, numerous industry professionals contribute to our programs as part-time instructors, enriching the academic experience with real-world insights.
As Üsküdar University Faculty of Communication, we have also proven the quality of our education through the awards received by our students. Our students won:
2 awards (1 second place, 1 third place) at the 29th Aydın Doğan Young Communicators Competition;4 awards (1 first place, 2 second places, 1 third place) at the 30th Turkish Journalists’ Association Aydın Doğan Young Communicators Competition. 4 awards (1 first place, 3 second places) at the 31st; 7 awards (1 first place, 4 second places, 2 third places) in the 32nd;3 awards (1 high distinction, 1 second place, 1 third place) at the 33rd; 3 awards (1 high distinction, 2 second places) at the 34th Aydın Doğan Young Communicators Competition.
In the TRT Future Communicators Competition (2020, 2022 and 2024), they won 5 awards, including 2 first places and 3 second places. Our students continue to participate in these competitions each year with an increasing number of projects.
In our Faculty of Communication, we have practice areas and laboratories such as a state-of-the-art television studio, radio studio, computer laboratories, news workshop, advertising workshop, and design workshop to equip our students with the knowledge, skills, and competencies expected by the industry. Our student news platform, haberuskudar.com, is among the best student news sites.
With the education we provide at the Faculty of Communication, we aim for our students to gain a strong intellectual background and to develop an analytical, questioning, and critical perspective. Because only communication professionals who question with a critical view can be a beneficial citizen for their country.
Of course, communication education cannot be confined solely within university campuses. As Üsküdar University Faculty of Communication, we pay attention to offering an education in cooperation with the media and communication sector. Our students gain experience through both compulsory and, if they wish, voluntary internships at media organizations, social media platforms, advertising agencies, public relations firms, and design and animation companies, taking firm steps toward the future.
As the Faculty of Communication, we attach importance to international collaborations and exchange programs such as Erasmus. We encourage the participation of both our academics and students in exchange programs. We also continue to host students and faculty members from international universities with which we have Erasmus agreements.
As the Üsküdar University Faculty of Communication, we are proud of our academic journal Etkileşim (Interaction), which we have been publishing for several years, and of our academic symposium International Communication Days, which we organized for the twelfth time in 2025. Our journal succeeded in becoming one of the preferred journals in the field by being indexed in TR Dizin in just its fifth year. Our international symposium, where papers are presented, has become a recognized brand in the field with an increasing number of applications each year.
In short, as Üsküdar University Faculty of Communication, we are focused on raising well-equipped and talented communication and media experts. As we confidently repeat at every opportunity, “Excellence in Communication Education Begins at Üsküdar University."
