What Is the Opticianry Program?
The optical sector is a branch of the healthcare industry established to correct vision defects diagnosed by ophthalmologists and to ensure that the prescribed treatment is applied to patients accurately and completely.
Within the optical sector, opticians, store owners, and sales personnel work together as a team.
Individuals who graduate from the Opticianry Program of the Vocational School of Health Services at universities are awarded the title of Optician. Opticians are trained to read prescriptions prepared for the correction of visual impairments, supply optical products, and provide patient-specific applications in accordance with the prescription.
The Program Aims to Train Graduates Who Observe Health and Safety Measures
The aim of this program is to educate technical personnel who possess general public health knowledge, are entrepreneurial and committed to continuous self-improvement, embrace the philosophy of total quality management, support relevant institutional processes, understand the environmental, social, and ethical issues related to their profession and the responsibilities arising from them, and observe health and safety measures in professional practice.
Opticians read prescriptions written by physicians and provide the lenses and frames suitable for each patient.
Using a pupillometer and personal measurement techniques, opticians measure the patient's pupillary distance (the distance between the centers of the two pupils), determine the visual center, and use a lensmeter to measure the diopter values of the lenses and identify the optical center.
Based on these measurements, opticians prepare the lenses, cut them to the required dimensions, mount them into the frames, and deliver the custom-made eyeglasses to the patient.

First Year: Anatomy and Physiology of the Eye, Basic Mathematics, Opticianry I, Positive Psychology and Communication Skills, Turkish Language I, Atatürk's Principles and History of Revolution I, English I, University Culture I, Opticianry II, Spectacle Lens Technologies, University Culture II, Atatürk's Principles and History of Revolution II, Turkish Language II, English II, Summer Internship.
Second Year: Opticianry III, Visual Optics and Refraction I, Clinical Optics and Rehabilitation, Contact Lenses, Customer Relations and Marketing Strategies in Opticianry, Opticianry IV, Visual Optics and Refraction II, Eye Diseases, History of Opticianry and Professional Ethics, Occupational and Social Security Legislation.
What Are the Employment Opportunities for Opticianry Program Graduates?
Graduates of this program are awarded the title of Optician. They may establish their own optical stores or work as responsible managers in optical establishments. Opticians are employed in businesses engaged in the manufacture and sale of eyeglasses.
You Can Transfer to Bachelor's Degree Programs Through the Vertical Transfer Examination (DGS)
Graduates may also gain admission to bachelor's degree programs through the Vertical Transfer Examination (DGS), in accordance with the provisions of the Regulation on the Continuation of Undergraduate Education for Vocational School and Open Education Associate Degree Graduates, provided that quotas are available in their field.
The Opticianry Program is offered in both daytime (formal) and evening education formats.
