Specialization in dentistry is a 3-4 year advanced training process undertaken after graduation, to which students are admitted through the DUS (Dentistry Specialty Training Entrance Exam - DUS - OSYM), and it enables specialization in any of the departments of Dentistry.
The Dentistry Specialty Training Entrance Exam (DUS) is the central exam taken by dentistry graduates in order to receive specialty training. Administered by ÖSYM, the exam is held to select and place candidates who wish to receive specialty training at the dentistry faculties of universities. Based on DUS results, candidates are placed in the programs they have chosen according to available quotas, thereby earning the right to train in a specific specialty. The main purpose of the exam is to measure candidates’ ability to recognize and comprehend concepts, principles, and methods in dentistry, to reason with them, and to apply them to various situations. In this respect, DUS is an official evaluation process that identifies candidates who are academically and professionally suitable for specialty training. DUS consists of a Basic Sciences Test and a Clinical Sciences Test, and during placement candidates’ scores are evaluated according to the relevant specialty. In all departments of the Uskudar University Faculty of Dentistry, specialty training is provided to students who pass the DUS exam and are placed through central placement.
Candidates Eligible to Apply for DUS Can Generally Be Listed as Follows:
- Graduates of a faculty of dentistry or candidates expected to graduate in dentistry within the exam year
- Those whose diploma registration has been completed by the Ministry of Health as of the exam date
- Candidates covered by Law No. 2527 on foreigners of Turkish descent
- Those who have no physical or mental illness that would prevent them from practicing their profession and working in the field in which they wish to receive specialty training
- Candidates who, if applicable, are able to complete any compulsory service arising from scholarships or similar obligations within three months of the exam date
Foreign nationals may also apply for DUS. However, in order to apply, candidates must meet all the requirements specified in the relevant legislation. Candidates who do not meet the requirements cannot obtain the right to placement even if they pass the exam.
