The Digital Platform Studies Study Group aims to investigate the transformations that digital platforms bring about for individuals, society and the media by examining the social, cultural and technological dimensions of digitalization from multiple perspectives. In this context, the group opens up for discussion the forms of experience generated by digital culture and algorithmic culture; how cultural production and consumption are being transformed; and how digital platforms have become an intermediary power through their practices of content presentation, ranking and filtering.
The group's research focuses on media, content and news industries, algorithmic selection and distribution, user behaviors and experiences, and the study of platform practices and cultural practices through digital ethnography methods. Approaching these topics from an interdisciplinary perspective, the study group aims to develop a critical field of digital platform research.
