EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES OF THE BA PROGRAM IN ENGLISH TRANSLATION AND INTERPRETING
The BA Program in English Translation and Interpreting aims to educate translators and interpreters who:
- have advanced proficiency in both English and Turkish, understand the importance of terminology work in translation, and demonstrate professional skills in both written and oral translation.
- achieve at least B1 level proficiency in a second foreign language in line with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
- play an active role in intercultural communication and possess strong cultural awareness.
- use dictionaries, encyclopedias, computers, translation technologies, and digital tools effectively throughout the translation process.
- adhere to ethical principles, professional responsibility and impartiality, and are familiar with quality control procedures and revision/correction techniques in translation.
- have an interdisciplinary perspective, can collaborate with specialists from different fields, are knowledgeable about various specialized areas of written and oral translation, and understand the legal framework of the profession.
- take sustainability, public benefit and social responsibility into account in all translation and interpreting activities.
- possess academic research skills and a commitment to lifelong learning, can benefit from employment opportunities at local and global levels, communicate effectively, and contribute to the development of knowledge in the field.
