Providing solutions to the economic, political and social problems that are on the agenda of the international system undoubtedly requires an accurate analysis of situations and events. As an academic working on international relations, I believe that when students study the relations between states, we need to ensure that they are able to see not only the events that have happened, but also the grand strategies of states for the future.
In its 100th year, the Republic of Turkey, as a regional power that has managed to stay out of the ring of fire around it, has to shape its foreign policy and diplomacy with firm steps and rational decisions. While academic studies provide important arguments for decision makers here, we decided to establish Üsküdar University Strategic Studies Application and Research Center (ÜSSAM) with the need for a research center where we can conduct interdisciplinary studies with the awareness of our responsibility for our students, who will be the decision makers of the future, to graduate as well-equipped individuals.
Based on this awareness, ÜSSAM assumes an important responsibility to identify and analyze the risks, threats and opportunities created by economic, political and social events centered on power-competition in the international system.
We have planned our main fields of study, which will be the subject of our researches that we will carry out with the importance we attach to academic student cooperation , under 14 general headings. These are ;
- Turkic World
- Africa
- South Caucasus
- Afghanistan - Pakistan
- Middle East
- Asia-Pacific
- European Union
- UK-USA
- Balkans
- Russia-Eastern Europe
- Future Studies
- Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution
- Simulation
- Digital Strategy
In addition, as ÜSSAM, we aim to contribute to the internationalization goal of our university with our research by approaching the fields of study we carry out within the framework of collaborations with strategic research centers and institutes in Turkey and abroad from a global perspective.
