Pathology technicians are auxiliary health personnel who prepare tissues and body fluids for microscopic examination. It is aimed to reinforce the theoretical knowledge with practice and to graduate fully equipped. Histologic and cytologic specimens are taken from the body and the procedures until diagnosis are carried out in the Pathology Laboratory.

Üsküdar UniversityPathology Laboratory has a macroscopy room, tissue embedding area, tissue sectioning area with microtome, staining area where histological and cytological staining is performed, microscope room.

Characteristics of Pathology Laboratory Technician

Recognizes the devices and glassware used in pathology laboratories.
Knows the acceptance and rejection criteria of tissue and cytologic materials.
Knows the solutions used in tissue follow-up and the order of application.
Gains the ability to use the microtome device to take 3-5 micron thick sections from tissues.
Learns the deparaffinization process and application steps.
Prepares and applies dye solutions for staining of tissues and cytologic materials.
Knows and prepares the decalcification stage and the acids used.
Knows and applies the procedures to be performed according to the characteristics of cytological materials (direct smear, centrifugation, cytocentrifugation, cell block)
Have knowledge about the maintenance and calibration of the devices used in the Pathology Laboratory and apply them.
Knows and applies special dye studies applied to tissues.
Pathology Laboratory Technicians should also have sufficient knowledge about patient and employee rights.
