An education cooperation agreement was signed between Üsküdar University Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Perfusion, and Spectrum Medical, operating in the field of medical technology. With this cooperation, Üsküdar University aims to become Europe's second training hub for vital perfusion education in cardiac surgery, following Berlin.
Following the first training session, Prof. Ali Kocailik, Head of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Perfusion, said, “With this agreement, we will conduct this training 5-6 times a year. Next year, we will also start providing training to neighboring countries. This training was previously only conducted in Berlin, Europe. Üsküdar University has become the second training center.”

An education cooperation agreement was signed between Üsküdar University Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Perfusion, and Spectrum Medical, a company operating in the field of medical technology. With this agreement, Üsküdar University aims to become Europe's second training center for vital perfusion education in cardiac surgery, following Berlin.
The "Perfusion Event Management Simulation Course," the first major step within the scope of this cooperation, garnered significant interest with its realistic crisis scenarios. The training program, held on February 21-22, 2026, at the Ibn Sina Auditorium of Üsküdar University NP Health Campus, brought together 20 expert perfusionists and 4 future perfusionist students, with a focus on patient safety.
The training sessions in the course program were delivered by Prof. Ali Kocailik, Head of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Perfusion; Instructor Perfusionist İsmail Yerli; Perfusionist Nihal Kolbaş; Perfusionist Youssef El Dsouki; Dr. Perfusionist Ignazio Condello; Perfusionist Eman Andrgiri; and Engineer Samir El Daccache.
Spectrum Medical officials, representatives from its Turkish distributor Alesta Diagnostic, and Research Assistant Ece Dereağzı from the Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Perfusion also attended the course program.

Üsküdar University becomes the second training center after Berlin
In his evaluation, Prof. Ali Kocailik stated that they reached a significant cooperation agreement with Spectrum Medical in the field of education, and they aim to expand its content over time. He added, “This training was previously only conducted in Berlin, Europe. Üsküdar University has become the second training center.”
Prof. Kocailik stated that the course, attended by a total of 20 perfusionists and 4 students, received intense interest, explaining that the 2-day program was conducted practically with the Califia 3.0 high-fidelity simulation system and the Spectrum Perfusion System.

Training conducted through realistic crisis scenarios
Prof. Kocailik noted that the simulation-based training program, conducted through realistic crisis scenarios, aims to develop perfusionists' event management skills. He stated, “During the training process, critical competencies such as structured thinking, teamwork, effective communication, and making correct decisions under pressure were emphasized.”
In the program, which highlighted the necessity of preparation beyond theoretical knowledge in managing the increasing complexity of cardiac surgery, Prof. Kocailik explained that the objectives were to strengthen patient safety, disseminate an event response culture, and establish a new standard for preparedness for perfusion crises in the region. He added that participants had the opportunity to experience leadership, decision-making, and emergency response processes through real-life perfusion emergency scenarios.

The heart of perfusion continues to beat in Üsküdar
Prof. Kocailik concluded by saying, “Within the scope of this cooperation, we will regularly continue the two-day practical perfusion emergency and event management simulation training, and we plan to expand the program to include neighboring countries in the new academic term. The heart of perfusion continues to beat in Üsküdar.”
