Medical and Dentistry students started the new academic year with orientation

Üsküdar University's 2026-2027 academic year began with the Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Dentistry Orientation program. On the first day of the orientation program, held with the participation of academic and administrative staff, students from the Faculty of Medicine and Faculty of Dentistry came together. Within the scope of the program, departments and directorates operating within Üsküdar University provided information to the new members of the Üsküdar family.

The orientation program was held in the Üsküdar University NP Health Campus Ibn Sina auditorium.

The opening speeches of the new academic year orientation program, held in two different sessions, were given by Üsküdar University Vice Rector Prof. Hikmet Koçak, Dean of Üsküdar University Faculty of Medicine Prof. Haydar Sur, and Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry Prof. Ergün Yücel.  

Prof. Hikmet Koçak: “We want to train you in the best possible way”

Üsküdar University Vice Rector Prof. Hikmet Koçak delivered the opening speech of the orientation program. Koçak said; “Be sure to take advantage of our university's facilities. We have research centers, department, and student clubs. We also have research centers where you can collaborate with other faculties. If you have any questions or want to work on topics in different fields, from engineering to medicine, consider them. Be involved in social life, play football, develop yourselves in different areas. As your instructors, we want to train you in the best possible way. As future doctors, you should make the most of both us and the opportunities provided by our university. I wish the 2026-2027 academic year to be beneficial for you, your families, and our university. Hopefully, in six years, when you graduate from Üsküdar University, you will receive your diploma as a self-confident physician who is not afraid of patients, meaning someone who trusts their knowledge and themselves. I congratulate all of you in advance.” 

Prof. Haydar Sur: “A great responsibility as much as it is colorful…”

Dean of Üsküdar University Faculty of Medicine Prof. Haydar Sur addressed the new medical students. Sur said; “I want to say that being a Faculty of Medicine student brings a great responsibility as much as it is colorful. Being a good physician is not just about knowing medical science; you also need to develop your communication and management skills alongside clinical skills. In addition, increase your general culture, do not disconnect from art, philosophy, and current life. Live your student life accordingly. For example, don't cheat. Because what you are as a student is what you will be as a physician. Be sure to take advantage of the opportunities offered by our university and Istanbul. Hopefully, in six years, you will graduate from here as self-confident, knowledgeable, and respected physicians. I wish this beautiful start to be beneficial for all of you.” 

Following the Faculty of Medicine orientation, an orientation was held for Faculty of Dentistry students. 

Prof. Ergün Yücel: “We focus on providing the best education under the best conditions”

Dean of Üsküdar University Faculty of Dentistry Prof. Ergün Yücel spoke within the scope of the program. Yücel said; “In this faculty, we focus on providing you with the best education under the best conditions, going beyond what we can do. As you will see when you visit our clinics; you will receive education in an institution that is extremely well-equipped and has facilities you won't find in many places. We constantly develop and differentiate ourselves. In recent years, we have been rapidly adapting artificial intelligence and digital technologies into our curriculum to increase your awareness and equipment in this field. We will also support you with special programs and assistance to prepare for DUS, which is an important stage in dentistry. Because DUS is a critical turning point in your professional life. Finally, I want you to know that our door as the dean's office is always open. If you have a problem, please do not hesitate to come and talk to us first so we can contribute to its solution together. With these wishes, I hope the new academic year will be healthy, successful, and pleasant for all of you, and I welcome you all again.”

Students were informed

Within the scope of the program, departments and directorates operating within Üsküdar University provided pre-class information to newly registered students at Üsküdar University.  

Head of Health, Culture and Sports (SKS) Department Sadık Paksoy provided information regarding its activities.

The Corporate Communications Department was introduced by Editorial Unit Manager Bülent Tellan. Tellan mentioned that they carry out all corporate communication and promotional activities of the university. 

Head of Student Affairs Serkan Kişin stated that students can check their attendance status, exam grades, course registration procedures, and exemption request results through the student information system.

Ebru Çamlıca gave the presentation for the Library and Documentation Department. Çamlıca informed students about the libraries on campus, electronic resources, and book lending.

Feride Şevval Karaçam gave the presentation for the Career Center Department. She provided information to students about internships, alumni relations, and post-graduation employment opportunities.

Ali Akcan, Manager of the Information Technologies Department, informed students about the internet service available at every campus, email addresses provided to students, smart boards in classrooms, and computer laboratories.

Mehmet Kaymaz provided information about the International Relations Department. Kaymaz spoke about Erasmus study mobility and internship mobility.

The program ended with a group photo session.

Orientation programs will continue until September 25

The program will continue on September 21 with the Foreign Languages and Preparatory Program, the Faculty of Communication, and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences,

on September 22 with the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, the Faculty of Health Sciences, and the Vocational School of Health Services,

and will conclude between September 24-25 after the “Conference on Combating Addiction” to be given by Assoc. Prof. Soner Kızıl, a faculty member of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Department of Forensic Sciences.
