First and Only from Türkiye

Global Role in the Fight Against Drugs

The United Nations International Narcotics Control Board (INCB) operates as an independent and quasi-judicial expert body established by the 1961 Single Convention. The Board is responsible for monitoring countries' compliance with the 1961, 1971, and 1988 international drug control conventions.

The Board is also the successor to the Permanent Central Opium Board, established by the 1925 International Opium Convention.

The INCB consists of 13 members, each elected by the Economic and Social Council for a five-year term. 10 of these members are selected from among individuals nominated by governments, while the remaining 3 members are chosen from names nominated by the World Health Organization (WHO) due to their expertise in medical, pharmacological, or pharmaceutical fields.

Board members, who are individuals capable of inspiring general confidence through their expertise, competence, impartiality, and freedom from personal interests, serve in their personal capacity and impartially, independently of governments, after being elected.
