The 6th Industry and Leadership Days were held
The guests on the first day of the two-day event were Uğur Genç, CEO of Memorial; Dr. Caner Şentürk, Turkish Aerospace Manager; Başar Beyazoğlu, CEO of Resenco Energy; and Emir Kosif, Founder of Brain Group.
Prof. Dr. Mehmet Savsar: “Industrial Engineering is the engineering that brings solutions to systems”
Prof. Dr. Mehmet Savsar, speaking about the importance of Industrial Engineering, said: “The importance of Industrial Engineering is increasing day by day. It is understood that it provides great contributions to both the industry and service sectors. Industrial Engineering is the engineering that brings solutions to systems. There is a system everywhere; there is a need for Industrial Engineering everywhere. As the Industrial Engineering department of Üsküdar Üniversitesi, we are very ambitious and striving to be among the top 5 in Turkey.”
Uğur Genç: “How we feel remains in a corner of our heart”
Uğur Genç, CEO of Memorial, emphasized the importance of genuinely feeling a job to do it well: “Healthcare is a job that must be done with all your heart. Because, in the end, we are with people during their most difficult or happiest moments. Telling a patient they have six months left to live is very sad. We stand by many different people and support them. That’s why it’s a job that needs to be done wholeheartedly. People forget what you say and what you do, but they never forget how you made them feel. This applies both in university and in our normal lives. How we feel remains in a corner of our heart. We must do better every single day.”
Dr. Caner Şentürk: “People feel happier as they do good deeds”
Turkish Aerospace Manager Dr. Caner Şentürk offered advice to his students: “Psychologists were asked, ‘If you had to define happiness, what factors make a person happy?’ Three main points emerged that all psychologists agreed on most. The first point is people being content with what they have. We call this gratitude. The second point is doing good deeds. People feel happier as they do good deeds. And the third is doing what you love. One of the most important elements for being happy in life is doing the work you love and loving the work you do, becoming a more competent person.”
Başar Beyazoğlu: “You don't become an entrepreneur, you are born an entrepreneur”
Başar Beyazoğlu, CEO of Resenco Energy, stated that entrepreneurship is innate in people: “You don't become an entrepreneur, you are born an entrepreneur. I am a sailor, but currently, I operate in the energy sector. While everyone is talking about sustainability right now, I am an entrepreneur who tries to foresee five years into the future, and I believe that the circular economy is the cycle of the future, the topic of the future.”
Emir Kosif: “It's not about working a lot, but working well that's important”
Emir Kosif, Founder of Brain Group, offered sales and marketing-focused advice: “We learn how to sell from academics who have never sold a single lemon in their lives. Then, when we graduate from university and enter a real sales process, we see that sales are not like that. Because they teach us about sales from things they've read in books and never experienced themselves. Every day, we sell ourselves to the people around us. We try to show our best selves, manipulate them, and try to get what we want. Invest in your personal brand. Collect people (network). It's not about working a lot, but working well that's important,” adding, “Use marketing correctly. Embellish your work. Sell yourself right.”
At the end of the event, plaques were presented to the speakers for their participation.
On the second day of the program, Onur Özyurt, CEO of Balparmak; Mustafa Ünal, CEO of Sneaks Up; Cem Tütüncüoğlu, Co-FOUNDER of Kraker Studio; and Tuna Canatar, CEO of Lego Head of Manufacturing, met with the students.
