OBJECTIVES:

Music therapy is a specialty that uses music and musical activities to meet the physical, psychological, social and mental needs of individuals.

Music, which is an effective and powerful communication tool in human life, affects people not only when the spiritual structure is bad but also when it is good. Music speaks to the feelings and thoughts of people with its unique language, structure and expression elements.

Music is an art that allows people to express themselves with sounds with an easy and understandable definition. Music has its own language and that is why it has a universal dimension and music is the only common language in the world. Listening to music stimulates the human aesthetic sense and rhythm intuition and awakens strong emotions within. The individual's excitement for life increases with music. Music relaxes, invigorates, calms and enriches the human side. A person who listens to music becomes a happier and more harmonious individual in society. Many people are able to express themselves better with music and express their emotions with music. Therefore, music is also used for communication purposes.

Music stimulates the centers related to thinking, learning, speech and body control in the central nervous system and brain shell and supports the developments in this area. Music plays a role in relaxing the brain and alleviating hormonal irregularities in young people with depression. Depending on the style and shape of music on hormones, it has an increasing or decreasing effect on stress hormones.

In modern times, the first practice of musical therapy was included in the treatment programs at Michigan State Hospital in 1947. Music therapy studies have been carried out in France since 1949. After WWII, a music therapy institute was established in Stockholm, Sweden. In 1977, the United States adopted musical therapy as a science. Music therapy has been used effectively in psychiatric-based illnesses since the 1950s. Today, music therapy practices are performed in many clinics, research centers, art centers, hospitals, nurseries and independent areas in the world.

Today, music therapy with Turkey, many studies are carried out in Europe and America. While music therapy was accepted as a specialty by the US Music Therapy Association in 1997, many scientific studies have been conducted on music therapy. The term therapy developed today Turkey, which applies in many health centers in Europe and America.

Üsküdar University is the first and only university in Turkey on psychiatry and psychology-NPISTANBUL Brain Hospital has been many studies related to the field of occupational therapy. In this sense, our center aims to enrich various methods of modern medicine in music therapy, psychology and psychiatry with applications and make researches that contribute to education. In this context, determining the types of music suitable for the sociocultural structure of the patients, determining the frequency of the electrical rhythm of the brain after determining the brain map of the person with the brain electrode (EEG), and determining the music that will enable this frequency to reach the normal limits; Taking into account that religious motifs are also effective in the treatment, with the researches, appropriate music will be applied to the patient in the next stage. While choosing the appropriate music, it is planned to use millions of previously recorded works. Üsküdar University Music Therapy Application and Research Center; It is aimed to make a great contribution to the science of psychology and psychiatry.

FIELDS OF ACTIVITY:

It is used as a complementary method in clinical fields such as neurology, cardiology, oncology, psychiatry and in the treatment of individuals with special needs. Also, music therapy; has an important place in the treatment of alcohol and substance addiction.

In scientific researches, it has been determined that classical Turkish music and classical western music have a healing effect on diseases.

Music elements such as rhythm, melody and harmony are used for therapeutic purposes in music therapy. Music creates positive effects on the nervous and endocrine system of the patient, enables meaningful reactions in feelings and thoughts, the patient takes an active role in the therapy process by making music, improves talent, increases self-confidence and engages in a meaningful occupation.

The word "music therapy" consists of the words "music" and "therapy". The word "therapy" is a branch of medicine that teaches measures and remedies for the care and treatment of patients and originated and adopted from the Greek words.

You can activate different parts of your brain depending on the type of music. Thus, music can reactivate some brain parts that have lost their function as a result of neurological disorders or emotional disorders.

It is known that music has a positive effect on physiological events such as blood pressure, respiratory rhythm, respiratory quality, pulse rate. Over time, we can train the damaged parts of our brain with music.

Ears act as sources for electrical charging of the brain. The decrease in electrical energy in the brain cells causes distraction and fatigue. In this case, the brain needs to be charged like a computer. One of the ways brain cells are charged with energy is to perform the treatment with music therapy method.
