What is Occupational Health and Safety Program?

With industrialization, technological advancements, and changing working conditions, protecting worker health and safety has become one of today's most critical needs. The Occupational Health and Safety Law No. 6331 has significantly increased the demand for a qualified workforce in this field across both the public and private sectors.

The Üsküdar University Occupational Health and Safety Associate Degree Program aims to train students as competent Occupational Health and Safety Technicians equipped to prevent workplace accidents and occupational diseases, identify risks, and foster a culture of safety at work. The program complements theoretical education with hands-on laboratory work, industry collaborations, and field experience.

Graduates can work as Occupational Health and Safety Technicians in public institutions, Joint Health and Safety Units (OSGBs), industrial enterprises, construction projects, healthcare facilities, educational institutions, and the energy, logistics, and service sectors. Furthermore, provided they meet the necessary requirements under relevant legislation, they can pursue a career path to become Occupational Safety Specialists.

Program Educational Objectives

1.To train qualified Occupational Health and Safety Professionals who—in line with contemporary needs and technological advancements—can serve in public and private sector institutions providing occupational health and safety services, adhere to professional ethical principles, and assume effective responsibility in projects of varying scales.

2. To train individuals capable of planning and implementing protective and preventive measures to avert workplace accidents and occupational diseases, and who can contribute to the development of an occupational health and safety culture.

3. To train professionals capable of identifying workplace hazards and risks, effectively conducting risk assessment, analysis, and management processes in accordance with relevant legislation, and adopting a continuous improvement approach.

Program Objectives

The aim is to train individuals who monitor and interpret legal regulations regarding occupational health and safety and act in accordance with professional ethical standards; who implement all necessary measures to ensure workplace safety; who are capable of conducting risk analyses and taking the necessary precautions to prevent risks within their organization; and who remain sensitive to current events and developments in the field of occupational health and safety.

Objectives

1. Possesses fundamental, up-to-date, and practical knowledge related to the profession.

2. Is knowledgeable about occupational health and safety, environmental awareness, and quality processes.

3. Follows current developments and practices in the profession and utilizes them effectively.

4. Effectively uses information technologies (software, programs, animations, etc.) relevant to the profession.

5. Has the ability to independently evaluate professional problems and issues using an analytical and critical approach, and to propose solutions.

6. Can effectively present ideas and express them clearly through written and oral communication.

7. Takes responsibility as a team member to solve complex, unforeseen problems encountered in field-related practices.

8. Possesses awareness regarding career management and lifelong learning.

9. Adheres to social, scientific, cultural, and ethical values during the stages of data collection, implementation, and the dissemination of results in their field.

10. Keeps up with information in their field and communicates with colleagues using a foreign language.

11. Explains occupational health and safety legislation.

12. Carries out proactive and reactive activities.

13. Creates a risk map of the work environment regarding occupational health and safety.
