Visual Studies Research Group is an interdisciplinary research group that aims to understand the meaning, power and effects of images on our lives through research and studies on visual perception, visual culture, visual identity, artworks, art movements, images in traditional and digital media in the world of images and images, and supports the infrastructure of these studies with theories and concepts.
MISSION
Visual studies aims at visually oriented research in various disciplines, the development of visual research methods, and the exploration of visual means of communication about social and cultural worlds. Visual studies is an important field of study that encompasses and influences all disciplines that interact with image, society and culture. It sets standards for the scientific use of visual material and works to publicize and increase the visibility of these standards. The multidisciplinary character of the working group is reflected in visually based research in aesthetics, sociology, philosophy, ethnography, anthropology, cultural and media studies, documentary film and photography, information technology, education, communication studies and other fields related to image-based work.
VISION:
The goals of the visual studies working group are:
- To provide an international forum for the development of visual research.
- To promote acceptance and understanding of the wide range of methods, approaches and paradigms that make up image-based research.
- To achieve a balance between visual and written work in the social sciences.
- To explore visual research methodologies and to develop appropriate grounds for the application of new methodologies in new platforms.
- To conduct research that synthesizes between visual research methods and analytical approaches.
- To provide academic space and arena for in-depth exploration of various approaches, specific methods, themes and visual phenomena.
- To provide an academic infrastructure and publishing space for visual culture studies.
- To contribute to the formation of visual literacy awareness in traditional and digital media.
