Since its establishment, ÜSESKOM (Üsküdar University Speech and Language Disorders Research and Application Center) has been continuing its activities in parallel with the education-training and research-practice activities carried out in the Department of Speech and Language Therapy (SLP) of the Faculty of Health Sciences and the Department of Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) of the Institute of Health Sciences. On the one hand, it enables the undergraduate students of the SLP department to practice, and on the other hand, it supports the research and development activities of graduate students and faculty members of the department.
SLP Departments train practicing speech and language therapists who can provide clinical services in the field of communication-language-speech-voice-swallowing disorders in our country. Since the SLP undergraduate program within the Faculty of Health Sciences has to train qualified professional staff for the field, it has to focus on practice. In this context, ÜSESKOM is in close cooperation with the SLP department.
Our center has an independent space in the NP Health Campus with two sound-insulated phonetics laboratories and sound therapy laboratories, seven individual and two group therapy rooms, a council room and faculty rooms. Under the supervision of SLP department lecturers and master's and doctoral students, our undergraduate students evaluate individuals with communication-language-speech-voice disorders, create therapy plans and perform their therapies.
Our aim is to train qualified speech-language pathologists, conduct basic and applied research and contribute to the development of the field by publishing the reports of these studies. We continue our efforts to make ÜSESKOM even stronger in both national and international platforms in the field of speech-language pathology.
