About Speech-Language Disorders and Therapy Laboratory
Speech and Language Laboratory is located in Üsküdar University South Campus A-Block. This laboratory was established to carry out clinical applications and scientific researches of the Department of Speech and Language Therapy and ÜSESKOM (Üsküdar University Speech Therapy Research and Application Center). The laboratory consists of therapy rooms where clinical applications are carried out.
Basic Functions and Purposes of Use of Speech-Language Disorders and Therapy Laboratory
- To conduct clinical and experimental studies individually or in groups under the supervision and supervision of responsible faculty members; to teach how to utilize laboratory facilities in the process of diagnosis, therapy and evaluation of the results of speech and language disorders.
- To ensure that those who are deemed necessary from the cases applying to ÜSESKOM Speech and Language Therapy Clinic are guided by objective methods in the examination, evaluation and therapy processes in accordance with the public interest.
- To develop therapy methods and models for communication-language-speech disorders.
- To develop materials (tests, games, picture cards, written therapy materials, etc.) that can be used in speech-language therapy.
- To carry out basic and applied research on communication-language-speech disorders in order to publish on national and international platforms.
Speech-Language Disorders and Therapy Laboratory Application Units
Evaluation Unit: Each case applying to ÜSESKOM for speech-language therapy is evaluated in detail in terms of speech and language disorders. Following the evaluation with assessment tools for this purpose, an individualized therapy plan specific to the case is created at the council meeting and the case is referred to the relevant unit, and its progress is monitored through interim evaluations.
Delayed Speech-Language (DLL) Unit: In this unit, individual and group therapies for preschool children with delayed language-speech problems are planned/developed and implemented. Collects data on the application processes and results, and transforms them into publications in line with research and development principles.
Developmental Speech-Language Disorders Unit: Individual therapies for specific (hearing impairment, mental deficiency, autism, etc.) and general (pronunciation and phonological problems, language problems, etc.) developmental speech-language problems observed in preschool and school-age children are planned/developed and implemented. When necessary, cooperation is made with the GLC unit and other units within the university (child development, occupational therapy, child-adolescent psychology, etc.). Collects data on the application processes and results, and transforms them into publications in line with research and development principles.
Stuttering Unit: Individual/group therapies are planned/developed and implemented for stuttering and other disfluency problems in all age groups, including preschool. When necessary, cooperation is made with ÜSESKOM and other units within the university (child-adolescent psychology, clinical psychology, etc.). Collects data on the application processes and results, and transforms them into publications in line with research and development principles.
Voice Disorders Unit: Individual/group therapies for voice disorders in all age groups, including preschool, are planned/developed and implemented. When necessary, cooperation is made with ÜSESKOM and other units within the university (ENT, child-adolescent psychology, clinical psychology, etc.). Collects data on the implementation processes and results, and transforms them into publications in line with research and development principles.
Acquired Speech-Language Disorders Unit: Individual/group therapies for acquired speech-language disorders due to various reasons (stroke, traumatic brain injury, neurological diseases, etc.) are planned/developed and implemented. When necessary, cooperation is made with ÜSESKOM and other units within the university (brain hospital, clinical psychology, etc.). Collects data on the implementation processes and results, and transforms them into publications in line with research and development principles.
Reading Difficulties Unit: Individual/group therapies for problems such as dyslexia and other reading difficulties and dysgraphia are planned/developed and implemented. When necessary, it cooperates with ÜSESKOM and other units within the university (brain hospital, clinical psychology, occupational therapy, etc.). Collects data on application processes and results, and transforms them into publications in line with research and development principles.
Records and Archive Unit: The records of the cases that apply to the Speech-Language Disorders and Therapy Laboratory of ÜSESKOM are kept, archived and protected by this unit.
