Workshop on Nobel Chemistry Prize-Winning Technology Held in Üsküdar in 2016…

Two female scientists who developed DNA editing tools won the 2020 Nobel Chemistry Prize. Üsküdar University, which understands the importance of this field and continues its work in our country, held Turkey’s first practical workshop on the CRISPR/Cas9 method twice in 2017.

Emmanuelle Charpentier and Jennifer Doudna became the first women to share the Nobel Chemistry Prize for their work in gene-editing technology.

"Genetic scissors" known as Crispr-Cas9 allow specific and precise changes to be made in the DNA of living cells.

The workshop was held in Üsküdar in 2017…

The Crispr-Cas9 workshop, which enables the elimination of disorders causing harmful protein production due to DNA damage through intervention in DNA, was held twice at Üsküdar University in 2017.

This method, introduced in 2012, is seen as a remarkable method due to its fast, easy, and inexpensive nature.

Another distinct feature is that it can be used to eliminate diseases, especially those caused by hereditary factors.

Üsküdar University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Muhsin Konuk, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kaan Yılancıoğlu organized the workshop, which was attended by educators: Abdullah Gül University faculty member Asst. Prof. Dr. Oktay Kaplan, Medeniyet University faculty member Asst. Prof. Dr. Cihan Aydın, Dr. Cihan Taştan from Acıbadem University, İzmir Ekonomi University faculty member Asst. Prof. Dr. Osman Doluca, and Umut Ağyüz from GENZ Biyoteknoloji.
