Tarhan-IDER Foundation members gathered for iftar dinner

The Tarhan-IDER Foundation's board of directors and members came together for their traditional iftar gathering. At the iftar program held at Uskudar University NP Dentistry and Health Campus, foundation members broke their fast in a warm atmosphere and enjoyed the pleasure of coming together during Ramadan.

The Tarhan-IDER Foundation's iftar dinner, held regularly every year, took place with high participation this year as well.

At the invitation of Uskudar University Founding Rector and Tarhan-IDER Foundation President Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, Board of Trustees Chairman Furkan Tarhan, Foundation Board Member Fırat Tarhan, Acting Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Zelka, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Hikmet Koçak, Uskudar University Secretary General Selçuk Uysaler, along with foundation members and their families, attended the iftar dinner held at Uskudar University NP Dentistry and Health Campus.

Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan: “We should make the most of the last days of Ramadan”

Foundation President Prof. Dr. Tarhan, who delivered the opening speech of the iftar invitation, said; “We have entered the last days of Ramadan. During this period, approximately 1500 Khatms were completed. Hopefully, this will lead to good things. I thank all our friends, esteemed teachers, and guests for coming here and attending the iftar, for their spiritual support, and for being here. These last days of Ramadan, which we are observing, are naturally very precious; we are in a spiritually very fruitful period.” he stated.

“The month of Ramadan provides psychological health like resilience and endurance training”

Tarhan, touching upon the psychological effects of the month of Ramadan on individuals, said; “Ramadan is actually described as the victory of the soul over the body. Its measure is that it provides self-discipline in a person. You don't eat between certain hours; you wait. It provides psychological health like resilience and endurance training. It leads to the soul's dominance over the body. It becomes something like a victory. Our mind also achieves a victory over our ego. We don't just fast with our bodies. Our mind also controls our ego. It offers a period that will discipline those wild emotions within us and protect us from many evils. Hopefully, it will have a lasting effect towards the end of Ramadan. Another important effect of Ramadan is in distancing our hearts from worldliness and materialism. Because the heart tends to incline a person towards short-term things it likes. It is important to direct this towards lasting things instead of temporary, fleeting ones.” he concluded.

Şükran Ünlükul, daughter-in-law of Bediüzzaman Said Nursi, was also present at the iftar dinner, which saw high participation. Ünlükul stated that it held spiritual significance that her son Seyda Ünlükul was named by Bediüzzaman Said Nursi Hazretleri, and had a pleasant conversation with Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan on topics related to Bediüzzaman Said Nursi Hazretleri and Risale-i Nur.

The program concluded after prayers and the recitation of the Holy Quran.
