Tanrıverdi: “We Examined the Modern State and the Prophet’s Understanding of the State”

Üsküdar Üniversitesi, the Association of Defenders of Justice (ASDER) and the Association of Strategic Research Center for Defenders of Justice (ASSAM) jointly organized the second of the ASSAM-ASDER monthly E-Seminars. This month's guest for the seminar was Retired General Adnan Tanrıverdi, Chairman of the ASSAM Board of Directors and Chairman of the ASDER Honorary Board.

“Civilization expresses the material and spiritual assets of society”

Retired General Adnan Tanrıverdi, by defining civilization, said: “Civilization refers to all intellectual, artistic, scientific, and technological products, as well as the material and spiritual assets, of a country, society, or living species. When we speak of civilization, the general understanding is that we can distinguish between civilizations created by societies believing in divine religions and those created by unbelieving human communities.”

“We Examined the Modern State and the Prophet’s Understanding of the State”

Tanrıverdi stated that when establishing the councils, it was considered to evaluate the modern understanding of the state and the Prophet's understanding of the state together; “When forming the councils, we considered in which areas this will should operate to gather under one will. When we considered this, we examined today's modern understanding of the state and the establishment of the state by the Prophet after his migration to Medina. The first thing the Prophet did after his migration to Medina was to establish a system to resolve disputes between individuals and the administration within Medina. That is, the primary area of activity that a state must manage centrally is the administration of justice. Subsequently, he established internal security to maintain order within Medina. Internal affairs is also an area of activity that must be managed centrally. Thirdly, he formed reconnaissance teams and sent them outside Medina to eliminate any threats coming from outside. This should also be considered as a defense force against external threats,” he said.

“Defense industry production in Islamic countries must be managed from the same center”

Adnan Tanrıverdi said, “Justice, internal affairs, internal security, external defense, and defense industry production for defense, especially in Islamic countries, must be centrally managed. Furthermore, foreign affairs also need to be managed centrally. Considering these areas of activity, we established the first of the research councils as the legislation review board. Within this, we also included economy among the activities that should be centrally managed to enable economic cooperation among sixty-one Islamic countries.”

“It is possible to build the justice system of the Islamic geography”

“Naturally, with the development of today’s technology, defense industry should emerge as a management unit in its own right, thus we divided defense into two. We separated it into defense organization and defense industry organization. The implementation of an economic cooperation system for Islamic countries based on Islamic economics, which will enable the Islamic world to achieve the economic power it deserves, will allow for the production of defense industry goods that will free them from dependence on war, weapons, and equipment, the organization of a common defense system, the central management of internal security and foreign policy, and the construction of a justice system for the world and the Islamic geography,” he stated.
