Contemporary Human and Existential Crisis…
Psychiatrist Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan’s article titled “Contemporary Human and Existential Crisis” met readers. In his article, Tarhan states: “Humans are not only biopsychosocial beings but also spiritual beings. While our biological existence is explained by physics and chemistry, our psychological existence also involves thought and language. Thoughts and emotions have an inter-unit energy exchange in the universal flow. When humans realize their own limited and insufficient power, they experience a feeling of losing control, which is alleviated when they believe in and surrender to a supernatural power during anxiety.”
“The tendency to believe in concrete entities is one of humanity’s weakest points”
Tarhan states that humans can console themselves against their fears and find answers to their search for meaning through their faith; “Humans embark on a search for meaning to cope with the feeling of danger they experience in the face of uncertainty and wage a war against unconsciousness with the desire to believe in an omnipotent, sacred power. The tendency to believe in concrete entities is one of humanity’s weakest points. Consciousness tries to explain everything and, in matters it cannot explain, makes interpretations with the need to connect to a power outside itself in search of meaning. This need leads humans to faith, through which they can console themselves against their fears and find answers to their search for meaning.”
Multiple Topics Discussed
In his article, Tarhan makes important remarks on topics such as ‘Wisdom in Existential Crisis,’ ‘Neurodevelopment of Moral Reasoning,’ ‘Spinoza’s Fallacy,’ ‘The Relationship Between Spirituality and Health,’ ‘Paths to the Search for Meaning,’ and ‘Fallacies of Wisdom and Solutions.’
