At the 6th Basic Clinical and Multimodal Imaging (BaCI) Conference held at Üsküdar University NP Health Campus, 'Sema' in Sufism was discussed in a scientific context. At the conference, attended by 60 scientists from 12 countries, a Sufi music program symbolizing ‘Sema’ was also watched with keen interest.
In the three-day program held at NP Health Campus, where 60 international researchers from 12 different countries discussed the latest developments in neuroscience, genetics, and medicine, 'Sema' was also examined from its scientific aspects.
Üsküdar University Founding Rector, Psychiatrist Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, shared with the participants the study conducted with Üsküdar University researchers, including himself. In his presentation titled “Rumi Therapy: From Age of Knowledge to Age of Wisdom / Neurospirituality”, Tarhan presented the results of changes in functional brain activity of whirling dervishes during Sema meditation.
Prof. Dr. Vasfi Emre Ömürlü, a faculty member of Yıldız Technical University's Mechatronics Department, and also the Art Director of La Edri Sufi Music Ensemble, one of the representatives of the tradition in Sufi music, gave a presentation titled “Sema' Ritual (Sema' Âyini) and Its Dimensions: Metaphysical, Symbolic and Psychological” during the program. The presentation explained the inner meaning of Sema and the Sufi symbolism of the Sema Ritual.
Within the scope of the BaCI Conference, a side event symbolizing the Sema Ritual was held.
Within the scope of the 6th Basic Clinical and Multimodal Imaging (BaCI) Congress held at Üsküdar University NP Health Campus, the psychological, symbolic, and spiritual dimensions of the Sema Ritual, one of the rituals of the Mevlevi tradition in Sufi culture, were discussed. Following the speeches, a program symbolizing the Sema Ritual in accordance with its tradition was held.
At the conference, attended by 60 scientists from 12 countries, the program symbolizing the Sema Ritual impressed the participants.
