Psychiatrist Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, Founding Rector of Üsküdar Üniversitesi, made statements to Üsküdar Üniversitesi Media Relations Specialist Ayşe Nur Akçelik regarding sexual identity ideology. Tarhan, stating that there is a serious sexual identity ideology in the US; “There is a heterophobic sexual identity ideology against men and women. As you know, homophobia means fear of homosexuals. Heterophobia, on the other hand, means anti-marriage. Anti-marriage has become an ideology in the US. This ideology currently has significant political power.” he said.
“Sexual identity is learned through social learning in children.”
Psychiatrist Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, Founding Rector of Üsküdar Üniversitesi, talked about the need to give children open, transparent, and accurate answers. Tarhan; “Biological sex is separate, sexual identity is separate. Children cannot understand sexuality until hormones related to biological sex become active in them, unless you ask them a question about it. You cannot teach them the sexual differences between men and women. On this subject, parents lie with good intentions. When a sibling arrives, the child asks; ‘Mom, where did my sibling come from?’ The family says; ‘Storks brought them,’ this is the most common answer. Instead of this lie, what we currently recommend is that when children before adolescence ask such questions, the mother and father lovingly embrace without confusing sexuality, and give an answer like 'that's how it forms', and biological sex education happens this way. The sexual aspect of sexuality is explained like this. Sexual identity is different. When children notice their sexual organs as male or female, and there is a difference, for example, boys will take the light behind them and show their sexual organ in shadow. Such things happen in the preschool period. In such cases, the child cannot understand the difference, or the child masturbates and gets pleasure. In such situations, if the mother reacts excessively when asked, or the person acting as the mother (if it's the father, it can be the father), if they react excessively, the child understands this as a fearful area and codes it into the fear file in their brain. Because the brain opens three files for every subject: subjects to be trusted, subjects to be feared, and subjects to be learned in due time. It opens the file for subjects to be feared, and in later life, fears related to sexuality arise. It is necessary to give children open, transparent, and accurate answers. In such a situation, when asked this, it should be said that there are such differences in both boys and girls, and they will learn this in due course. If answered in this way, such information is sufficient in preschool education. In sexual role, biological gender role, but in sexual identity role, it is different. Sexual identity is learned through social learning in children. The child looks at the parents, the parents' relationship, and takes three things as examples. They either take the mother, the father, or their relationship as an example.” he said.
“Transsexuality is epigenetic, not genetic”
Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan made evaluations on the fact that things that are epigenetic always have a chance to be changed. Tarhan; “Oxford conducted a study with the US on over five hundred thousand people. This study is a report that there is no 'gay gene'. There is no gene related to sexual identity, but there are genes related to masculinity and femininity. There is currently no gene related to transsexuality. So where does transsexuality come from? Freud's thesis gained validity. Freud says; 'If there is a weak, cold, distant father, the child chooses the mother as a sexual role and identifies with the mother, or if a boy grows up among older sisters and aunts, or among girls, and the father's male role is also one to be emulated, then the child models it, and consequently, biological changes begin to occur in the child's brain, and at a young age, they want to behave like that.' he says. This is even called epigenetics, meaning changes that occur later in genes, changes that the environment makes in genes. In other words, transsexuality is not genetic, it is epigenetic. It is not congenital, it is acquired. Things that are epigenetic always have a chance to be changed, but the person must want it. If the relationship between mother and father is cold, the child cannot understand the concept of masculinity. Sometimes the opposite happens, everyone wants to raise their daughter like a boy. She is the family's last daughter. The family wants a boy. Without realizing it, the family thinks 'if we don't have a boy, at least let's make her one'. At a young age, they constantly dress her in pants, give her a toy gun, and make her do such tough movements. In later age, they come to us; they say, ‘This child behaves like a boy.’ We see that you have raised her that way. If it comes in early adolescence, between 12-15 years old, there is a chance for correction, but if it comes after 15 years old, the chance for correction is very difficult. Therefore, a person's sexual identity learning should be clear before early adolescence. After that, it is very difficult. If they come after 18 years old; we say, ‘Sorry, you're late.’ Because a person over 18 now chooses with their own free will. They can choose male gender, female gender, or trans. In this age, no one can accuse anyone by saying; ‘You chose the 3rd sexual identity’.” he said.
“Currently, there is a serious sexual identity ideology in the US, RTÜK should develop a strategy”
If you review the attached news regarding Walt Disney company targeting children in gaming technologies, the importance of the matter will be understood.
Above is an interview given by Disney’s content director, whose broadcasts have started in Turkey. In summary, it says: *at least 50% of cartoon and movie characters will be LGBT*. Do not think of Disney as a simple content provider that owns Mickey Mouse. It is currently the world’s largest content producer. Most animated films we see in cinema (e.g., Toy Story, The Lion King, Aladdin, Mulan, etc.) belong to Disney. More importantly, it owns the film rights to *Marvel comics*. Marvel Comics is the company that owns characters such as *Spider-Man*, *Iron Man*, *Hulk*, etc. There is no boy who does not have a Spider-Man logo product at home. Finally, you can also see Disney’s size through its acquisitions.
- 1995: abc acquired
- 2006: pixar acquired
- 2009: marvel acquired
- 2012: lucasfilms acquired
- 2015: national geographic acquired
- 2017: 21st century fox acquired
- 2018: hulu acquired”
And Disney's content director says that at least 50% of the characters will be LGBT. This is a very serious target: our children. If we want them to be children of our culture, RTÜK should address this.
Tarhan, speaking about anti-marriage becoming an ideology in the US; “In schools, transsexuality is officially taught and encouraged as a 3rd sexual identity. There is no scientific basis for this. This is entirely a political issue, or rather, an ideological one. Currently, there is a serious sexual identity ideology in the US. There is a heterophobic sexual identity ideology against men and women. As you know, homophobia means fear of homosexuals. Heterophobia, on the other hand, means anti-marriage. Anti-marriage has become an ideology in the US. This ideology currently has significant political power. It engages in lobbying activities, it has political power. An approach that questions the need for marriage. It defends this in open communication. They wanted to form a pedophilia party in the Netherlands, but it was not accepted there. Pedophilia means sexual love for a child. They see sexual love for children as freedom. They see sexual love for animals as freedom. NGOs doing this are currently engaging in ideological propaganda worldwide, not just including trans individuals but also similar ones. Therefore, parents have the right to say no to its inclusion as a lesson in the curriculum. Until the age of 18, parents are the natural guardians of the child. They are responsible for the child’s civil rights and signatory authority. For example, if parents are responsible for many things like inheritance, school registration, etc., then a teacher cannot make the final decision regarding a child’s sexual identity without the parents’ consent. It is not ethical and has no basis. If parents object, they will withdraw the child from that lesson and that school. Parents must be aware of this.” he stated.
“95% of the world's money is in the hands of 5%”
Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan touched upon the issue that global capital currently supports anti-marriage in the world. Tarhan; “A child between 5-8 years old is not hormonally, biologically, or mentally developed regarding sexuality. They cannot perceive it. If there is an instruction related to it, it is the right of whoever determines the child’s social role. And that is the parents. One should not give sexually explicit instructions without the parents’ permission. Disney is seriously an extension of global capital. Global capital currently supports anti-marriage in the world because the world population is growing too much. They say if the world population increases, global famine will occur. 5% of the world’s capital is greater than 95% of the world. 95% of all the money in the world is in the hands of 5%. The entire capitalist system in the world has done this. Because the capitalist system governs the world in this way, they act with the feeling of dominating the world. They took it upon themselves as a duty, saying, ‘We are the bosses of the world, we rule, the world’s population should not increase.’ They call this philanthropic activity. It means charitable activity. Global capital makes charitable donations to foundations, and those foundations support such programs. I never forget, a project came to us from one of our professors. A million Euro support related to sexual identity. I asked; ‘Can you find out the project’s funding?’ He found out. The fund was from the United Nations Population Fund. The United Nations Population Fund supports these kinds of activities. You might ask, ‘What does population planning have to do with sexual identity?’ Because global capital donates there, and from there, it is funded.” he said.
“Does true love wait?”
Tarhan, stating that external factors change hormones and cause early puberty to begin; “Children have started to encounter sexuality early, especially due to the internet and social media. We call this Precocious Puberty, Precocious Adolescence. Puberty has started to begin at 9-10 years old. This also triggers hormonal activation in these children. Mental stimulation occurs, and when mental stimulation occurs, children become curious about sexual topics, and when they become curious, hormones are triggered early. Because external influence changes hormones and early puberty begins. Endocrine specialists know this well. When it starts early, they immediately give suppressive hormones; if they don’t, the child’s height remains short. They enter early puberty, and when early puberty ends, it is not parallel to the bone age in the body. As a result, the child’s height remains short, but they have grown and matured early, and hormone therapy is administered. Therefore, this is actually related to an early encounter with the concept of gender. Each age has a maturity, and one should not encounter it before reaching that age’s maturity. If they do encounter it, the child waits for such feelings. In fact, a campaign against early pregnancy has now been launched in the US. It was launched against pregnancies before the age of 18. The campaign’s name is ‘true love waits’. Wait for the right person until you're 18. You don't have to experience sexuality with everyone. Because in high school, 1 in 3 girls in the population are pregnant, adolescent pregnancies. After that, people are bothered by this. The public, who is bothered, initiates such projects; this is not a government project.” he said.
“The male brain is erotically focused, the female brain is romantically focused”
Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan stated that the primary responsibility for the development of children’s sexual identity lies with the parents, and that if the parents’ role at home is good, children do not easily develop sexual identity disorders. Tarhan; “Random sexuality means illness, abuse. Therefore, in such situations, we work on the ability to say no. Especially boys are more aggressive and sexually demanding. With girls, the ability to say no is being worked on. Up to the age of 18, we tell girls; ‘If you have a boyfriend, and he is in love with you, let him wait. True love waits.’ Boys immediately want sexuality. 1-2 years later, high school sweethearts say; ‘I love someone else,’ and leave. In such a situation, the woman is abused. That is, romance is abused. The male brain is erotically focused, the female brain is romantically focused. Therefore, the victims here are mostly girls. This is also related to biological structure. In fact, there is a study done in the US, psychology students (male and female) are told to press a button when they think of mind and sexuality. Male students pressed the button 5 times more than female students. Male students’ brains work with a focus on sexuality. Therefore, they have difficulty focusing on lessons when their female friends are present. Sex education must definitely be given, it is beneficial, but homework should not be given. Teachers give homework like 'you can try this regarding sexuality'. The moment this is given, you encourage random sexuality, and some of these children, especially girls, feel pushed aside and mistreated. Childhood traumas occur, increasing the workload for psychiatrists. There is no supervision regarding this. Even education faculties do not take this into account. In schools, on this matter, the guidance counselor or psychological counselor entirely shapes it according to their own philosophy of life. Here, the primary responsibility for the development of children’s sexual identity lies with the parents. If the parents’ role at home is good, children do not easily develop sexual identity disorders.” he stated.
“The child was raised with 3 concepts: Shame, Forbidden, and Sin”
Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan stated that children cannot be educated with the concepts of forbidden, shame, and sin, and made evaluations on the need to explain events to children with their justifications. Tarhan; “If a child is bullying their parents, it means there is a traditional approach to that child’s upbringing. This happens a lot in patriarchal cultures. The child bullies, objects to the parents. They bring him saying, ‘He’s rebelling against me.’ Let me give an example without names. The child rejects the social role taught by the mother and father, which includes sexuality. That is, they reject sexual identity, religious identity, cultural identity. They say, ‘I am an individual, I will be free.’ This child is 14-15 years old. They brought him, and we looked at how this child was raised. The child was raised with 3 concepts: Shame, Forbidden, and Sin. Now, this old traditional method has worked for centuries. This child is dependent on their parents at a young age, and there isn’t much freedom. When told 'shame', the child adjusts their shame according to society, the forbidden according to parents, and sin according to religion. Now, when someone says 'shameful', neighbors shame, relatives shame. They say, ‘What do I care about others, I want to be myself.’ They instantly erase the shame. Two, they say 'forbidden'. They say to the parents, ‘Whose prohibition is this? It’s your prohibition.’ They say, ‘I don’t have to obey this prohibition.’ Then comes the third thing, the sense of responsibility that has been directed at us for centuries: sin. When told 'sin', that child, for example, had parents who asked; ‘Can we force a child to learn religion and pray with us?’ The teacher, a traditional one, said; ‘You cannot force a non-Muslim. There is no compulsion in religion, but you can compel a Muslim.’ Upon this, the child said; ‘Then I will become an atheist.’ They brought him asking what happened to this child. This means that in this age, this has become widespread among children in general. That is, we cannot educate children with the concepts of forbidden, shame, and sin. We need to persuade children, we will explain it to them with justifications. Why you shouldn’t do this, why this is shameful, why this is forbidden. We will explain it for your good, for your future, etc. The third reason is religious justifications. We need to explain it with justifications. When they cannot explain this, the child objects. When he objects, they say this child is lost to us. They beat him, they apply violence.” he said.
“Mother is the trainer, school is the teacher”
Tarhan, stating that when teachers think a child has sexual identity confusion, they should address it with the parents, not the child; “Schools currently cannot deviate from the curriculum provided by the Ministry of National Education. This means that minority schools and colleges alike cannot go outside the curriculum. More important than the actual curriculum are the instructors, teachers, and educators. It is shaped by the interpretations of the educators. Therefore, educator training is definitely needed on this subject. With educator training, our social policies on this matter need to be correctly explained and reflected. Mother is the trainer, school is the teacher. The trainer is responsible for every behavior of the child, but teaching also has a training aspect. The education part. Therefore, the word 'teacher' does not encompass the word 'education', and the conceptual content changes. It’s for someone who only teaches information. At the same time, a teacher is a role model. If this issue reaches teachers, the teacher needs to deal with it with the parents. If they say, ‘Your child has such issues,’ then the parents become aware and professional help is sought. When a teacher senses that a child has sexual identity confusion, they should proceed with the parents, not the child.” he said. Or the guidance counselor should address the issue as a school psychologist.
