Üsküdar University Vocational School of Health Services (SHMYO) Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Program continued to bring its students together with the sector through conferences, seminars, technical visits, and practical training conducted throughout the 2025-2026 academic year. In events aimed at disseminating the occupational health and safety culture, many topics ranging from disaster management to fire safety, occupational hygiene to ergonomics were discussed with the participation of experts in their fields. Students had the opportunity to reinforce their theoretical knowledge with field experiences and gained significant achievements that will contribute to their professional development.

OHS Program brought its students together with the sector throughout the year

Üsküdar University SHMYO Occupational Health and Safety Program did not limit its educational activities to the classroom environment but brought its students together with sector representatives, public institutions, and experts in their fields throughout the year. In the organized events, current practices of occupational health and safety, sectoral developments, and professional experiences were comprehensively discussed.
The legal dimension of occupational accidents was discussed
In the seminar "Occupational Accidents from an Expert Witness Perspective: Legal Case Analysis," Senior Engineer and Expert Witness Ruhan Bayraktar met with students. The seminar evaluated the judicial processes of occupational accidents, the preparation of expert witness reports, fault analyses, and the legal responsibilities of employers, employees, and occupational safety specialists through real cases. Students also had the opportunity to examine the technical origins of occupational accidents and practices for their prevention.
Graduates shared their experiences with students
At the Alumni-Student Meeting event organized by the OHS Program, graduates Adem Bulcum, Rabia Çevik, and Ayşenur Özyaşin met with current students. SHMYO Deputy Director Instructor Esad Sadık Demirtaş also attended the event. In the online event, graduates shared their transition processes from student life to professional life, experiences encountered in the field, and the knowledge gained during their career journeys. Students had the opportunity to ask questions they wondered about the sector directly to the alumni.


Erasmus opportunities introduced
In the information meeting held in cooperation with the SHMYO Erasmus Commission, students received comprehensive information about Erasmus mobility. The program discussed Erasmus application processes, education and internship opportunities abroad, and the contributions of international experience to career development. Students were also informed that they could complete their summer internships abroad within the scope of Erasmus. At the event, SHMYO Erasmus Commission Member Instructor Eyser Boz spoke about how to apply for Erasmus, what to pay attention to during the application process, the procedures after the application is accepted, and the benefits of participating in Erasmus. SHMYO Deputy Director Instructor Esad Sadık Demirtaş and OHS Program Head Asst. Prof. Gamze Kağan Koca also attended the event.



Management systems in OHS were explained
In the seminar titled "The Importance of Management Systems in OHS," Lead Auditor and Class B Occupational Safety Specialist Erhan Anbarcı met with students. SHMYO Deputy Director Instructor Esad Sadık Demirtaş and OHS Program Head Asst. Prof. Gamze Kağan Koca also attended the seminar. The seminar discussed the importance of occupational health and safety management systems for businesses, implementation processes, and field experiences. Students had the opportunity to hear about current practices used in the sector directly from an expert.

Laboratory training was conducted practically
Within the scope of the OHS Practices course, department graduates met with students and conducted practical training. In the "Labeling and Coding" training given by Class A Occupational Safety Specialist Emre Şengün, students experienced industrial security applications in a laboratory environment. OHS Program Head Asst. Prof. Gamze Kağan Koca attended the training. The training also offered students the opportunity to closely learn about the career journey of a successful graduate.


Working at height training received great interest
In the "Working at Height" training conducted with the participation of Class B Occupational Safety Specialist Oğuzhan Çakır, one of her graduates, within the scope of Asst. Prof. Gamze Kağan Koca's "OHS Practices" course, the importance of personal protective equipment, correct usage methods, and field applications were discussed. Students gained practical knowledge about working at height risks and also benefited from professional experience sharing. Çakır explained with one-on-one practical applications why Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is so important in Working at Height, how it should be used correctly, and what to pay attention to in the field.

Fire extinguishing drill was conducted
In the fire extinguishing drill organized as part of Asst. Prof. Gamze Kağan Koca's "OHS Practices" course, Class A Occupational Safety Specialist Emre Şengün practically explained the correct intervention methods during a fire to the students. The drill addressed precautions to be taken against fire risks, risk assessment processes, and the reflections of occupational health and safety culture in the field. Students had the opportunity to reinforce their theoretical knowledge with practice.


Change and transformation in OHS were discussed with a comprehensive program
One of the most comprehensive organizations of the year, the "Change and Transformation in Occupational Health: Leadership, Coaching, and Strategic Planning" program, was carried out under the leadership of the OHS Program in cooperation with Yüksel Proje and ÇASGEM. The four-day program included 11 seminars and 14 practical workshops. The training covered topics such as leadership in occupational health and safety, safety culture, communication, crisis management, strategic planning, career management, and organizational development. The program contributed to the evaluation of innovative approaches to changing needs in the field of occupational health and safety.
Üsküdar University SHMYO Occupational Health and Safety Program continued to equip its students not only with academic knowledge but also with practical skills, sector experience, and professional awareness through the events it organized throughout the year. It was stated that the program will continue its events that bring students together with sector professionals in the upcoming period.
