The “PSI368 Motivation and Emotion” course, offered within the Üsküdar University Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FHS) Psychology (Turkish) Department, stood out with high participation this semester. The course is taught by Üsküdar University Positive Psychology Coordinator and Asst. Prof. Fatma Turan from the FHS Psychology (Turkish) Department.
The “PSI368 Motivation and Emotion” course, part of the Third-Year Elective Course category, continues to generate great excitement among students. This semester, the course achieved a record participation rate with 199 students from different departments of the Faculty of Communication and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, once again demonstrating the importance young people place on personal development and psychological well-being.
Understanding emotions is a life skill
Emphasizing that students are not only presented with theoretical frameworks within the course, Asst. Prof. Fatma Turan pointed out that recognizing and managing emotions is a fundamental life skill. Fatma Turan stated, “In this context, students are given creative and experiential assignments such as radio plays, song analyses, cinema, and book reviews. Through these unique applications, students increase their emotional awareness, strengthen their empathy skills, and find opportunities to understand their own life experiences more deeply. The experiences offered by the course make significant contributions to students’ psychological well-being.”
Fatma Turan stated that the high participation clearly demonstrates how much today’s youth value not only academic success but also fundamental life skills such as emotional development and psychological resilience. She concluded, “This picture once again proves how valuable and much-needed positive psychology-based educational approaches are at the university level.”
