Prof. Dr. Niyazi Beki: “Knowing the truths of faith and acting morally accordingly is Sufism”

RİNAP President Prof. Dr. Niyazi Beki, who spoke about Sufism being a goal, emphasized the importance of morality. Beki said; “It is the morality taught by the Quran and Sunnah. There are two ways to achieve this morality. The first is the path of Tariqa, and the second is the path of truth. Tariqa is not inherently the master of Sufism. Tariqa is a method of Sufism. There is also the path of truth. Bediüzzaman states that he adopts the profession of truth here. The profession of truth first looks at Ma'rifatullah, takes faith in Allah and other principles of faith. It is very difficult for someone whose faith is not strong to perform deeds. The primary duty of a mujaddid is to teach the principles of faith. Knowing the truths of faith and acting morally accordingly is Sufism. Faith is Ma'rifatullah, learning the names and attributes of Allah. How is Allah Ghafur? How is He Rahim? How is He Karim? It is to learn the names of Allah within unity.”

“Muslims are adorned with the morality of Allah”

Beki stated that Muslims adopt being adorned with the morality of Allah, and said this adorning happens in two ways. Beki said; “Firstly, to live by and manifest Allah’s attributes within oneself. For example, Allah is Al-Quddus (The Holy), and He desires every place to be clean, therefore a person must also be clean both materially and spiritually. That is, to apply the possible parts of Allah’s names exactly as they are, and to carry out the impossible parts inversely. This is called being adorned with the morality of Allah.”

Prof. Dr. Ümit Arınç: “He is a thinker who synthesizes reason and faith in the Islamic world”

Manisa Celal Bayar University Founding Rector Prof. Dr. Ümit Arınç, who was a guest at the seminar, recounted the statements of some academics about Risale-i Nur and Bediüzzaman on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Bediüzzaman’s passing. Arınç said; “One of them, Prof. Dr. Hayrettin Karaman, says; ‘Bediüzzaman possessed superior intelligence, sufficient knowledge, and inspiration. He viewed the Quran with these abilities and accumulated wisdom, working to make it speak to the understanding of the age. He succeeded in this goal through the sincere efforts of his followers. Professor of Literature İskender Pala wrote; ‘Bediüzzaman brought works to this country that could appeal to people's spiritual worlds. Bediüzzaman lived in such an era, leaving deep traces in society. Therefore, some people in society continue to draw inspiration from him. In this respect, he is appreciated by everyone as a thought leader and a guide. Bediüzzaman brought works to this country that would affect people's spiritual lives. Through these works, it became easier for people to know themselves. Said Nursi is a thinker who synthesized reason and faith in the Islamic world in the 20th century.”

At the seminar, participants were also presented with the books ‘Bediüzzaman Said Nursi, an Anatolian Saint of Our Time’ and ‘Said Nursi’s Sufi Views’.
