The History Research Working Group was established to support the academic activities carried out within the Üsküdar University Department of History, to develop original research that will contribute to the discipline of history, to address historical issues with interdisciplinary approaches and to improve the research competence of undergraduate students.
1) Politics, Institutional Structures and World of Thought in the Ottoman Empire
Political authority, bureaucracy, legitimacy and intellectual production processes within the framework of the Ottoman central-provincial organization, military-political institutions and the ilmiye structure in the early modern period.
2) Society, Everyday Life and Socioeconomic Structures
Stratification of Ottoman society, daily life practices, economic relations, gender, public health, disasters and elements of material culture.
3) Historiography, Method and Document Analysis
Theoretical approaches to historiography, methodological debates, use of archival documents, biographical sources and evaluation of historical testimonies.
4) City, Space and Memory Studies
Urban historiography, urban transformation, social and political functions of space, collective memory and the role of settlements in identity production.
5) Digital History and Quantitative Methods
Spatial analysis, digital mapping, visualization techniques, database usage and digital history research.
6) Modern Turkey: Identity, Modernization and Cultural Politics (19th and 20th Century)
Political and cultural transformations, social movements, women's rights, minority politics, urbanism and educational reforms in the transition from the late Ottoman to the Republic.
7) Global History and Comparative Modernization Processes (19th and 20th Century)
Transformations such as imperial competition, colonialism, nation-state building, modernization and world wars in Europe, the Ottoman Empire and peripheral geographies.

1 Year Targets
- Establish working group structure and start regular meetings
- Establishing a focus framework that defines the working topics of the research group
- Preparation of a digital promotional page that will increase the visibility of the group
3 Year Targets
- Organizing at least two academic events (panel, workshop, seminar) open to participation
- Producing research outputs that can be transformed into publications
- Exploring the possibilities of a national research collaboration in related fields
5-Year Targets
- Establishing a continuous publication or content production practice
- Organizing a meeting or workshop open to interdisciplinary participation
- Conducting preliminary studies for the development of archive, resource or method-oriented digital content
