Audiology Laboratory

The science of audiology includes various test batteries (pure tone audiometry, speech audiometry, free field audiometry, play audiometry, visually conditioned audiometry, tympanometry, acoustic reflex testing, eustachian tube function testing, reflex decay, otoacoustic emission tests, ABR, c-VEMP, o-VEMP, VNG, caloric test) to determine whether people can hear at a normal level, and if not, where and at what level the problem in the hearing system is, and whether hearing can be improved with hearing aids or cochlear implants; The vestibular rehabilitation process starts with the evaluation of patients with complaints of imbalance, the source of the problem and exercises appropriate to the problem.
Üsküdar University NP Altunizade Medical Center Audiology Laboratory provides detailed hearing evaluation, balance evaluation/rehabilitation and newborn hearing screening in adult and pediatric patients.
Audiology Laboratory and Audiological Tests for Children
*Behavioral Hearing Tests: It is done to find the minimum level at which the baby or child can hear. Depending on the age and attention level of the child, reliable responses are obtained from the infant/child by using Behavior Observation Audiometry (BOA), Visual Reinforcement Audiometry (VRA) and Play Audiometry techniques.
*Speech Audiometry
*Acoustic Immitansmetry
*Otoacoustic Emission
*Electrophysiological Measurements: The responses of the auditory nerve and hearing centers in the brain are monitored with the help of electrodes. (ABR, MLR, LLR, MMN, P300, ASSR )
*Hearing screening with automated ABR

Audiology Laboratory and Audiological Tests for Adults

*Pure Tone and Speech Audiometry
*Acoustic Immitansmetry
*Otoacoustic Emission
*Electrophysiological Measurements: The responses of the auditory nerve and hearing centers in the brain are monitored with the help of electrodes. (ABR, MLR, LLR, MMN, P300, ASSR)
*Tinnitus (Tinnitus) Assessment
*Balance Disorder Assessment

Audiological Test Methods and Devices

Videonystagmography (VNG)
The VNG is a system of different subgroups of tests developed to investigate balance disorders in detail. Subtests include evaluation of the connection pathways between visual information and the balance center in the ear, dizziness caused by position change, and dizziness caused by heating and cooling of the ear (Caloric Test).

Electrophysiologic Hearing Evaluation Methods

ABR: AuditoryBrainstem Response is an advanced audiological assessment used to determine the type and degree of hearing loss and to evaluate auditory nerve function in young children or adults who do not comply with behavioral tests.
Middle and Late Latencies, Auditory Evoked Cortical Evoked Potentials: These are advanced audiological evaluation methods that monitor the processing of the heard sound along the auditory nerve and in the brain centers related to hearing.
Otoacoustic Emission Test (TEOAE and DPOAE): An objective test that evaluates the function of hearing cells in the inner ear.
Acoustic Immitansmetry Test: It consists of Tympanometry, Acoustic Reflex Test, Eustachian Tube Dysfunction Test, Reflex Decay tests. These are objective tests used to evaluate the eardrum, ear ossicles, middle ear cavity and auditory nerve.
Child and Adult Audiometry: Pure tone and speech tests of children and adults, free-field and play audiometry tests of pediatric patients can be performed in quiet cabins with sound isolation. Hearing aid function is also evaluated in the free field.
REM Device: This is the device used to check the accuracy of hearing aid settings.

All these assessments are performed by audiologists, who are undergraduates in the science of audiology. Audiology is the branch of science that studies hearing and balance and investigates hearing and balance disorders. It deals with the prevention of hearing and balance disorders, diagnosis and rehabilitation if there is a problem. The audiologist assists the Otorhinolaryngologist in the diagnosis of hearing loss or balance disorders and counsels the patient during rehabilitation.
