Üsküdar Üniversitesi Vocational School of Health Services organized a “Rational Drug Use Seminar”. Lecturer Zehra Betül Kıngır from the Vocational School of Health Services, Pharmacy Services Department, participated as a speaker at the seminar.

“There are responsible parties in rational drug use”
Kıngır, defining rational drug use as individuals being able to obtain the appropriate drug, in the appropriate duration and dose, at the lowest price, and easily, according to their clinical findings and individual characteristics, stated: “There are responsible parties in rational drug use. These parties are pharmacists, physicians, nurses, other healthcare personnel, patients and their relatives, manufacturers, regulators, and other elements.”
“Diagnosis and treatment methods are of great importance”
Kıngır, drawing attention to the importance of diagnosis and treatment in rational drug use, stated: “The primary thing to do is to define the patient's problem. It is necessary for the physician to make a correct diagnosis, to define effective and reliable treatment, with or without medication, to evaluate the feasibility and cost of the treatment, and finally to evaluate treatment success and patient compliance. Diagnosis and treatment methods are of great importance in rational drug use.
In addition to all these, if drug therapy is to be applied, the selection of appropriate drugs for the patient, anticipating interactions in multiple drug use, basing decisions on current diagnosis and treatment guidelines, and informing the patient/patient's relative about the treatment are very important.”
“Attention should be paid to special groups”
Kıngır, referring to the existence of special groups in rational drug use, said: “In these groups, even more attention should be paid to drug use. Special groups in rational drug use include children, the elderly, women during pregnancy and breastfeeding, patients with kidney and liver failure, those with chronic diseases, and those with drug or food allergies.”
