What triggers issues like heart attacks and blood clots in young people?

Prof. Dr. İ. Tayfun Uzbay, Head of the Department of Internal Medical Sciences at the Faculty of Medicine, evaluating the research published in BMJ Journals, said, “Covid vaccines have been administered to billions of people. If they had caused a problem, it would not have been possible to overlook it in such a large population.”

Prof. Dr. Uzbay noted that there could be other important reasons behind the heart diseases and blood clots, which have been increasingly discussed among young people recently, and unfortunately, these are not brought up and discussed as much as Covid vaccines. He informed that “Obesity is common among today's youth; they do not eat well and healthily, and they are more inactive. The use of caffeine, energy drinks, and amphetamine-like stimulants, as well as some illicit drugs, is becoming widespread. All of these can trigger issues like heart attacks and blood clots in young people.”

Prof. Dr. İ. Tayfun Uzbay, Head of the Department of Internal Medical Sciences at Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Medicine and Advisor to the Rector, evaluated the research published in BMJ Journals, which suggests that the coronavirus vaccine reduces the risk of heart diseases in individuals who have had coronavirus.

“Claims in the Media Led to Vaccine Hesitancy in Society”

Prof. Dr. Uzbay reminded that there was a lot of speculation about Covid-19 vaccines causing heart disease and blood clots, and said, “Such claims also appeared in the media and led to vaccine hesitancy in society. However, claims that vaccines cause heart disease or blood clots had no scientific basis and were not proven information. They were not based on proper research with an adequate number of subjects and adhering to rules. Rather, these were claims based on perception management, especially supported by media and social media.”

“Being Protected from the Disease by Vaccination Was a Healthier Approach”

Prof. Dr. Uzbay also noted that people were constantly intimidated by linking events that could occur in their surroundings even during normal times to Covid vaccines, and stated, “During the periods when these claims were put forward, our evidence-based scientific information indicated that the virus causing Covid-19 and the disease itself could cause damage to the heart and predispose people to blood clots. In other words, being protected from the disease by vaccination was a healthier approach.”

“If Vaccines Caused Heart Disease and Clots, We Would See It”

Prof. Dr. Uzbay stated that the results of the study published in BMJ Journals confirm the recommendations of common-sense scientists, and provided the information: “According to the results of the study, which followed twenty million people for one year, vaccines protect people from the risk of heart diseases and blood clots, let alone causing them. The sample size in the study is quite high, and the study scientifically provides important evidence that vaccines do not pose such a risk. A comparison of vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals could also be made, but it is not mandatory. If vaccines had caused heart disease and blood clots, we would have seen a significant increase within the vaccinated group.”

“The Incidence of Heart Diseases is Known”

Prof. Dr. İ. Tayfun Uzbay also noted that the incidence rates of heart diseases in society are known, and said, “A significant increase in incidence rates in the general population would have been expected in vaccinated areas. Moreover, Covid vaccines have been administered to billions of people. If they had caused a problem, it would not have been possible to overlook it in such a large population. This is because, especially in countries that value science, vaccinated individuals and vaccine effects were closely monitored. An adverse situation would have resulted in the cessation of vaccination and the suspension of approval.”

Increasing Heart Diseases in Young People…

Prof. Dr. Uzbay stated that anti-vaccine lobbies are trying to manage public perception in a way that harms public health, and concluded his words as follows:
“There could be other important reasons behind the heart diseases and blood clots, which have been increasingly discussed among young people recently, and unfortunately, we do not bring these up and discuss them as much as Covid vaccines. Obesity is common among today's youth; they do not eat well and healthily, they are more inactive, and they spend more time in front of computers during their free time.

The use of caffeine, energy drinks, and amphetamine-like stimulants, as well as some illicit drugs, is becoming widespread. We also see an increase in methamphetamine seizures these days. All of these can particularly trigger issues like heart attacks and blood clots in young people. However, while dealing with vaccines, we hardly talk about these.”
