Üsküdar Üniversitesi Faculty of Health Sciences Department of Nursing held the event “Web-Based Education: Its Use in Health Sciences”. The program, held via Zoom, was moderated by Head of the Department of Nursing, Prof. Dr. Selma Doğan. The speaker of the event was Faculty Member of the Department of Nursing, Dr. Bahise Aydın. Aydın shared important information about the use of web-based education in health sciences.
“Web-Based Education Content is Highly Important”
Aydın, referring to the concept of web-based education, said; “The year 2020 affected everyone globally. Distance education is being implemented in the field of education and training. This was a unique education for this year. The realization of education over a network leads to its broad scope. We are currently facing a web-based education system that supports distance learning. Of course, it has positive and negative features. However, web-based education content is highly important.”
“Hybrid System is the Most Balanced Education System”
Dr. Bahise Aydın, also mentioning the concept of e-learning distance education, said; “Special communication methods are implemented through electronic or non-electronic systems. It eliminates the boundaries of time and space. It is a very comprehensive learning activity. Similarly, we can also talk about the Hybrid system. Concepts like blended learning, mixed instruction are also suitable. It is the balanced state of classical, traditional, and web-based education. As Üsküdar Üniversitesi, we also prefer the Hybrid system. We are also in favor of using flipped classrooms in the field of health.”
“Web-Based Education Has Positive and Negative Sides”
Aydın emphasized that there are implementation stages in the web-based system; “It exists in some universities in the field of nursing, but the number is small due to high costs. Web-based education is used in health sciences. Its positive aspects include being globally accessible, secure, and up-to-date; these are among its most important features. Students become self-controllers individually. From the educator's perspective, easy announcement creation, ease of communication, quick access, and easy sharing provide quite strong advantages and opportunities. We receive positive or negative feedback from our students.”
