Üsküdar Üniversitesi Founding Rector Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan, was a guest on the Instagram live broadcast of Greek author Rıdvan Kır Hümmet from Komotini. Making significant remarks during the broadcast, Tarhan emphasized that humans must tame their pride, jealousy, and ambition, otherwise, these emotions could lead a person to violence.

“Neuropsychology is a specialized field”
Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan stated that neuropsychology is a specialized field that changes the brain and its psychology, adding; “Especially, a master's degree in neuropsychology, which measures the neurological dimension in the brain, is also being offered. Studies are also continuing on the process by which forgetfulness, such as dementia and Alzheimer's, can be distinguished. Neuropsychology is also a fundamental area of psychology.” he said.
“Pride, jealousy, and ambition must be tamed”
Prof. Dr. Nevzat Tarhan stated that while the lion, the king of animals, can scare everyone, it is not as savage as humans; “Animals attack as soon as they perceive danger, but humans begin to attack in advance, even foreseeing potential future threats. The harmony dynamic in life has been wrongly perceived as the strong needing to defeat the weak. Humans possess feelings of jealousy, pride, and ambition. If these three emotions in humans are not tamed, a person can become prone to violence.” he stated.
“Sufficient sleep is very important”
Prof. Dr. Tarhan spoke about the importance of sufficient sleep, saying; “Just as a person hangs their clothes in a cloakroom while sleeping, they should also hang their thoughts there. When one goes to bed with thoughts like 'Why did this happen?' or 'This situation was unfair…', sleep can elude them. This situation becomes the onset of insomnia. There is no lymphatic tissue during sleep. During sleep, the brain shrinks, and when the brain shrinks, lymphatic pathways open up. These pathways clear fatigue-inducing substances; insufficient sleep can lead to Alzheimer's. For this reason, it is very important for individuals to get enough sleep.” he concluded.
“Good deeds make life livable”
Tarhan, emphasizing the concept of physical isolation, said; “In quarantine, the focus is on social isolation, but actually, 'social isolation' is not the correct term; it should be 'physical isolation'. The pandemic eliminated physical comfort and restricted freedom. At this point, the Creator gave us a message, a warning. During this process, smiles and empathy will facilitate the journey. Performing unseen good deeds is also very important. Everyone should make the world more livable by performing unseen good deeds. Good deeds make life livable.” he concluded.
